At least they're doing it now so he can actually have a shot at the other coaching vacancies in the league. 

There were rumblings that they were going to hold off until the vacancies were filled just out of spite.

Yeah.

Although, it's a little bit of a surprise, since most reports had the Bulls digging in their heels and waiting/hoping for someone to give them a pick for Thibs.

actually I think that is a real possibility. Pelicans still a young team and in need of a big change. Pelicans already got Anthony Davis there, so I think it'll be interesting for Thibs as well.

I read the Pelicans had interviewed Jeff Van Gundy, I wonder if they'd rather Thibs.

It would not surprise me if Thibs is looking for a Doc/Stan type situation in his next gig. I think after his clashes with the Bulls FO, including them obviously trading his guy in Deng, he'd want more control.

Thibs may kill Anthony Davis though. Thibs is notorious for overworking his players. I hope he doesn't do the same to 22 yr old AD.

Thibodeau's teams always over-achieved yet he gets fired.  Doesn't make sense.

The Celtic's should try to find a place for him.  Assistant GM, Defensive Consultant.

The Bulls are having security follow him around while he packs his stuff and then escort him out.

They are being really petty. They seem really p---ed that they couldn't get compensation for him and had to pay him the rest of his contract.
