Quote
There’s a long list of teams already prepared to pursue Carroll this summer, including the Celtics, Lakers and Pistons. He boosted his scoring average from 12.6 points to 16.2 before the injury, and was shooting 51.3 percent from the field and 41.6 percent from the 3-point line. The Hawks want to keep Carroll, but his price has been driven up. With his defense and versatility, one league exec estimated his next deal at more than $15 million per year.

On Crowder:

Quote
Crowder should get something in the range of the mid-level exception, and seeing as he is the main return asset for Rajon Rondo, the Celtics would like to keep him.

I have the same position on Carroll at $15 million as I do on Khris Middleton:  both are very good players, but don't do it.

I give Middleton a huge edge based on upside. He's 23, Carroll 28.

At the same time, Carroll is more proven.  Regardless, I don't think it's a good idea to give either a max / near-max contract.

$15 million for Carroll. I expect Robin Lopez will get the same if not more.

Anybody who is a top 15 player at their respective position will be earning a max or near max contract this summer with the way the cap is about to spike.

One line of thinking in signing, say Middleton, to a multi-year deal is that it gives us another asset. Even at 15M a year that contract won't be a negative and could only be thought of as a positive, barring unexpected decline or injury. So a team like the Kings, who have consistently struggled to lure in free agents, could be very receptive to a mid-season package involving Middleton, Sullinger, Bradley, picks, etc. for a disgruntled Cousins.

And if there is someone that I trust to bring out the best in a player and put them in a position to excel, be it Middleton or another free agent, it's Brad Stevens.

Of course, unexpected decline (or reasonable regression in a non-contract year) or injury are always risks.  Limiting those risks to true building blocks is a better strategy in my mind.

I don't think he is going to get that much money unless it is for short years.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

what for? The guy is mainly doing well bc of the system he is playing in.

Not a bad player to pickup, but not someone you overpay

I agree with the second part, but not the first.  I think he'd fit in in most systems.  He's a smart guy and a hard worker who has played defense well for years, and who can shoot.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Glue guy you need for any championship, but strangely enough, not worth the contract. There are always going to be guys available with similar skillsets to Caroll, who can provide excellent defense, and sufficient offense; for a lot less.

Free agents are going to be getting paid, depending on how the trade market pans out.

This is all we need to say about this one.
