Are our TE's useless?

With our last TE we were able to get Tyler Zeller and Isaiah Thomas. Because of this I was very excited when I found we had TE's of 12.9 and I believe it is 7.7 million dollars.

However, as we all know exceptions can only be used when you are over the cap. This basically means you cant sign FA's and use the TE's.

The hole point of the TE's is absorbing salary but you can do that with cap space all the same.

Is there any way we can bring in a big time player or two and use the TE's.

Ty Lawson, Taj Gibson, and a couple other intriguing guys fit pretty nicely into the TE's so it would be sweet if we could find a way to sign a big FA or two and then also add in a Ty Lawson type.

However it seems that not only is it a one or the other propisition but it seems that using the TE's is pretty much useless outside of allowing us to bring back Jonas Jerebko and Jae Crowder. They also limit us from acquiring anything too useful cus no one is giving away a star making less than 13 mil a year.

Someone convince me Im wrong.

I think we can use them at the draft but we wouldn't have cap space anymore.

If some other team is trying to sign a big name player and needs to cut cap space immediately, then no.  It's kind of hard to predict

They are not useless, but they won't necessarily be used.  However, trade exceptions are 100% useless for re-signing a free agent like Jerebko or Crowder.

If someone is willing to trade a star for a package that includes the expiring contract of Gerald Wallace, those trade exceptions can be used to go well over the cap to acquire other players,

But lets play pretend and imagine that a team is looking to unload a very talented 12.8 million dollar man. Does the fact that we have TP's help us?

Ya im not sure where I got that bit about Crowder but it made sense in my head at the time.

The thing with TE's is that we have so much cap space that they are useless unless we bring everyone back (thats where Crowder and Jerebko come in) and then go over the cap in acquiring guys. But lets say Denvers looking to unload Lawson.

We can absorb him with the TE or we could renounce a bunch of cap holds and just absorb him into the cap.
