Watching this team and it's lack of interior depth in the playoffs is infuriating. We have a bunch of guys who play really hard but if we had Cousins, I honestly feel like this team could beat the Cavs or at least take the them to 7. We need a 5 who can bang, and DMC is the guy...time for everyone to stop claiming he is a "thug" or "headcase" the guy wants to win. I look at him like a Rasheed Wallace, a misunderstood player who would flourish in the right system with the right types of players around him. DMC isn't the only piece we'd need for a banner but he'd be a big piece and would be attractive to FAs. Also a lot would depend on the development of Smart and KO, as well as who we can get to fit in at the 3 permanently. I'd sell the farm for Cousins, he'd put us in the 50 win category and people would actually want to play here.

But he is more of a one player superstar rather than a Stevens kind of player.. I agree the damage he can do as the big but how far into the playoffs would they get with him? You would need another star player to play along side..

On the other hand Kawai Leonard would be a perfect fit to this system.. This team is built for Leonard..

We need a star, however we can get it.

I could see him being moved if Karl wants to get his type of guys around the team and we can work a 3 way to get the Kings the players they covet.

Bringing in a star like Cousins via trade would also have the benefit of improving the quality of free agents we could acquire after a deal.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

we need more than just Cousins.  we need a real PG and a wing that can create his own shot too.

Yes but trading for DeMarcus makes the likelihood that a free agent of quality that fills one of those needs comes to us.

He is not going to be easy to get.  Karl is no fool, and has shown no inclination to offer him up.   His talent level is such that 95% of NBA would be built for him.

The Kings are a terrible organization and honestly if he doesn't go to the Knicks for a top3 pick via this draft then there is a chance. Cousins is fed up with the Kings, he's sick of playing for a awful organization. He wants to WIN.

Imagine how much better our fourth quarter lineup where we saw Thomas, Bradley, Turner, Sully and KO would be if we could replace Turner and Sully with two legit stars through trade and free agency.

Pipe dream number one being Cousins and Leonard.

Thomas/Smart
Bradley
Leonard/Crowder
KO
Cousins/Zeller

Is an incredibly balanced young team that fits Stevens system perfectly. If only.

I know....how do we get stars? If not through the draft?!? Karl Anthony really fits our system as well, but that is also a pipe dream....I'm afraid we're destined for mediocridy.

I 100% agree that he is perfect for the team and dont think he wouldnt fit Brad's system. Sure he would probably demand a lot of touches, but so does Isaiah, and hes been OK. People are over thinking the system. The Brad Stevens system is how we win games but it is isnt a recipe that he slots guys into. When Isaiah showed up all of a sudden the system involved a lot more pick and roll.

Cousins brings tremendous rebounding, interrior toughness, a solid midrange game, post scoring and that mythical rim protection.

The problem is bringing him in. If the Kings trade him and they wont (problem 1) they will demand so many of our assets that once he gets here he will no longer solve all our problems because it probably will have cost us every attractive piece we have.

We have to hope Cousins demands a trade and then wed have to sign a bunch of indian players and trade them to the Kings because their owner is insane and indian

I'd say we'll me mediocre for a couple more seasons. Unless we get really lucky in a trade..

We have some assets and some cash. The lottery is really risky too, I mean in the past 2 years weve had Anthony Bennet, Otto Porter, Alex len,  Cody Zeller, Dante Exum, and Aaron gordon all selected in the top 5. Sure Exum could still be a star and they could all be nice players but its entirely possible that a team could have had the second worse record in the league both years and come out with Anthony Bennet and Aaron Gordon. Its also possible they could have Oladipo and Jabari Parker but its not like the draft is some garunteed ticket to stardom.

I did a post way back looking at each top 5 back about a decade on there tends to be 1 superstar 1 bust, 1 dissapointmen and 2 above average- star players.

Each year fluctuates, but its not exactly a slam dunk.

Dont get me wrong I think its a strategy that can be very effective but people tend to make it sound like sucking for a year or two garuntees you 2 superstars. It is a much riskier proposition.

I mean look at the Bobcats, worst record in the league 1 year, really bad the next and they got out of it MKG, Cody Zeller,  Kemba and Noah Vonleh. All top 10 picks but they look more locked into mediocrity than us.

I actually think tanking is the easiest way to get a star but people (not necessarily you your post was actually completely reasonable and didnt even mention tanking) just in general people on this forum act like if you close your eyes and suck for 2 years you are garunteed to be title contenders within the next 3 years

Don't we have a better shot at Marc Gasol than Cousins simply because he is a free agent?
