Tom Thibodeau could leave Chicago

Apparently, there's been a long-running feud between him and the front office

This has been going on for year, and nothing has happened yet. So I'll believe it when I see it. As recently as last year, I would have agreed with you, but at this point, we're so committed to Stevens's plan and he has left too big a fingerprint to turn over for no reason. If Thibs can't find a job (I seriously doubt it), hire him in a defensive specialist/special coach a la Ron Adams last year. If not, don't bend over backwards to get him when we're already moving in a positive direction here.

I am all for Thibs as much as the next fan of Celtics history, but I strongly feel Brad Stevens is the better fit for our current roster.

If we had a more experienced roster of players I may lean towards Thibs.

As currently constructed, our young roster is already learning Stevens's system.....changing to another coach's system and more importantly, to another coach's personalty, may not be the best course of action for our inexperienced roster. (Which, most likely, a constantly shifting roster, which may be unfair to any new headcoach and unfair to Stevens too).

I don't think he can go back to being that at this point but that was my first thought too. Losing Adams hurt us too. It would be great if Thibs could do it but I really doubt he could.

Yeah, it'd be ideal but unrealistic. It was a stretch, but I figured him getting fired would be a stretch anyway. The way I can see it happening is if there isn't an open HC job that Thibs wants and he bides his time as a highly-paid assistant with us.

I have no problem with what Smart did and Stevens didn't need to put on his Mr. Rogers routine and say the play was "unacceptable."

I think it would have been fine if Thibs didn't find success as a HC, if his teams were bad it would probably be easier to go back to being an assistant. I think he could make it work if the HC was Phil Jackson or Pop but I don't see him wanting to be behind CBS.

I know I would send CBS to sell him on the idea if he was let go, I would pay him as much as possible w/o matching what CBS makes. I'm just thinking we would get a polite NO.

Not enough eyerolls in the world for this.

That said, firing Stevens to pick up Thibs when Stevens has done nothing to warrant being fired seems like a pretty good way to turn the Celtics into an unfavorable destination for future coaches and team personnel.

Thibs can attract Luol Deng and Paul Pierce so our 3 spot will be set. Nate Robinson can be our big scorer off the bench. Make the 4 spot a training camp battle between Sully and newly acquired Boozer. Then throw money at Marc Gasol and Rondo and pry them here too.

Or maybe Stevens decides he wants to go back to college and then the Celts bring Thibs in.

And then maybe Thibs can bring Jimmy Butler with him.
