Center Kendrick Perkins has committed to signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers once he finalizes a buyout with the Utah Jazz, a source told ESPN.com on Saturday.

Perkins was traded to the Jazz on Thursday in a three-team deal that sent guard Reggie Jackson to the Detroit Pistons and Enes Kanter, Steve Novak, Kyle Singler and D.J. Augustin to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Perkins was recruited directly by LeBron James to pick the Cavs, according to a source. He also drew heavy interest from the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs. The combination of a chance to win a championship along with an opportunity for playing time pushed Perkins to choose Cleveland.

After making up his mind, Perkins called Clippers coach Doc Rivers, whom Perkins played for in Boston, to inform his old coach of the decision.

I still don't see how this stuff isn't tampering, but I think it's a good fit for both sides.

Utah should have kept Perk. He would've been a good backup for Gobert.

Doubt perk wanted to play there. All he known for almost the last decade is championship caliber expectations.

Good fit for both sides as well.

Dallas or the Clippers needed him more---he won't see much playing time in Clev--with Mozgov...Screw the Cavs and LeBron.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Agree with Max86 and Bud above.

Very surprised he didn't go with Thibs.

Don't like rooting against Perk, but I've got to do it now.

Dallas disagreed.  They were reportedly his first choice, but they weren't interested.

Kendrick will be a UFA this summer. I just can´t see him getting anything but the league´s veteran minimum deal next summer.

I bet he could get the BAE from someone.  There was enough demand for him as a free agent just now.

Has anyone seen Perkins play on the Thunder? He won't have much of an impact at all on the Cavs except being another big body.

Looks like a smart move by Perk. Stay relevant at all costs and make alliances with dudes like LeBron. Might keep him around longer. He can definitely get some revenge on Pau if they clash in the playoffs. He could bang Gortat as well.

Another strong voice in the locker room and some added toughness helps.

I think Dallas were right. Perk would have been a bad fit. Too slow. Dirk needs a quick center alongside him. A slow footed center would compromise team's defense instead of fixing defensive problems.
