If Bass, Prince and Thornton stay past the trade deadline.  KO should be back after the break and helps the team. Young helps with the three point shooting.  Everyone else progressing as they are

Making the playoffs would be big for this young lineup moving fwd.

At worse we will pick 15 at the draft.  Danny will be able to get a good player with the pick. Or combine it with the clippers pick and move into the top 10.

Yeah, I think you're right.  I want them to make the playoffs as well.

I think it will be tough unless Sullinger does his thing & Bradley becomes more consistent.

Well it's a long shot for this rebuilding team to be a playoff team.

But the way I see it is .....at least it's something ........something to cheer for as a fan.

Cheering for yOUR team to loose gets old .   It's ok for a few games that might decide a better selection .   But .....who in there right mind wants to follow a team that is losing on purpose

How can you even respect a program that promotes losing as away to obtain players .......that whole concept is convoluted and was not the intent of the NBA ,  based on honesty and professionalism.

Professionals do their job .....in sports it is to win

That's what I support.

It would be bad to make the playoffs this year with a team that will be something like 10 games under .500.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Let the kids try hard to make the playoffs

Let Danny figure out how to convert assets into good pieces

It'll work out as long as we don't draft dinguses
I trust Danny Ainge

I don't think they'll make it but by all means let them try like hell.  I think it's better that this team, even as lacking in 'star' talent as this roster is, learns to fight hard for wins which is much better for the mental approach and learning process of the younger players than having a team just go through the motions of finishing out the season (such as NY, LA and Philly).

A decent chance because of the terrible teams around them, not because of the Celtics are a good team.

Which is the worst way to make the playoffs.

I just hope we commit to one or the other, either make a deal and get us into the playoffs or tank and get us a good draft pick.   This waiting in limbo is for the birds.   Plan and commit!

Bass, Prince and Thornton don't actually make us a young team. That would be a horrible way to back into the playoffs IMO. If young guys get us there so be it, old guys that will be gone next year would be brutal.

TP for you, this is how I feel exactly.  If Smart and Young were leading the way, I would be all in on a playoff run.  However, it's the vets that have a huge hand in these games.  That's why I think DA, moves Bass, Thornton and Prince by the deadline.

Not tooting my own horn because I'm wrong plenty and might still be wrong here, but here's what I thought about the season in October:

Depends which people but I agree.  I think we'll finish in the mid-30s for wins, but very likely over 30 at least.

The story of the season will be one of those teams that flirts with the back of the playoff race for a while midseason, gets everyone's hopes up, but drops out after a late-season slump and limps to the finish line.  A typical young 10th or 11th place in the conference deal.

I still expect it to go down that way.  Teams will start playing harder after the ASG and it'll be a lot tougher to steal wins like we did against Atlanta.  Our schedule's pretty easy which helps, but I don't think we'll quite get there.

I'm so on the fence with this subject. I always want to win every game, but in reality I know making the playoffs will keep us out of the lottery, and eliminate our shot at drafting a young big man. Making the playoffs may keep this team in mediocrity for several years to come.

On the flip side, making the playoffs will possibility get us some recognition when being considered by free agents.

If we do make the playoffs, naturally I'll be all in.

,.. and would also be a good learning experience for our players.

But, yet, I do agree with your thoughts on this.

All that said, I wouldn't say the Cs have a "decent chance".
Cs are one of ~6 teams vying for the last two playoff spots. I think the rookie wall and nagging injury is going to catch up to Marcus Smart, and I imagine there'll be a trade in the next few days that changes the complexion of the team enough that there will be some re-adjustment period.
Celtics fan for life.

Hollinger's playoff odds predicts the C's will take the 8th spot. B-ball Ref's playoff predictor has us at 34.3 wins which is .8 wins less than the 7 seeded heat.
