1. the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country.

I know that Danny and Brad want to groom him for that role for the future, but isn't he already the leader?

Now that he is the starter, he sets the tone defensively and he is progressing to the point of setting the tone offensively as well.

It's kind of amazing to think that this could be Marcus' team already, isn't it?  I mean he's only twenty years old and he is the leader of the organization with the most NBA championships of all time.

That is a big load to shoulder...but I think he can do it...and he's done well so far.

Still remember i made a thread asking should we start Smart over Rondo
Many people think it's laughable but look what happened..
Smart is now leading the Celtics by his great defense when Rondo has his Nose broken by his own teammate when doing his gamble defense...wow

He's a natural and anointed leader at this point--but not IMO yet an actual, foremost, team leader.

I think Sully is the next leader. In a way, Bradley is more of a leader than  Smart. Bradley has a tremendous work ethic.

If Sullinger is the leader of this team we're in trouble.  He can't even make it to the Garden on time.  Poor attitude when he was asked about it.  Loser if you ask me.

I think the problem with the Celtics right now is that they don't have a leader.  I think Smart has the potential to be a leader but he is not that yet.  For example, it the team had some others respected enough to follow, that leader might have enough influence on Sullinger to get him to practice on time and have him work a little harder on conditioning; perhaps without even saying anything directly.  Smart is not there yet.

Yeah, it'd be something of a sorry situation if the team took after either Sully or AB more.

Marcus Smart is still a rookie, there is no way he is considered team leader. He's sill doing the things rookies do in the first season in the nba.

That's not to say in future years he won't be the team leader. He may very well be.

The biggest thing Marcus Smart can do is find out what his future position will be on this team. That's all that should be on his plate. Learning.

You mean the guy who needs his daddy to come into town to snap him out of the pouting, and sluggish play every time things aren't going his way?

Bradley may have a good work ethic, but that doesn't translate to leader.

Not all of the best leaders were the best players on the floor. Smart has a want to be great, and is very competitive, and that has translated in some of the games and became contagious to the other players on the floor to play harder and better. On most of the big comebacks the C's have had, he has been the one constant on the floor.

I have written a bit about this topic before.

Smart is the best leader on this team currently despite being a rookie.

He defers in most cases out there and often in the first half of games he plays a passive role as he is aware he is a rookie still learning the game.

but...in fourth quarter of close games he has been the most vocal guy out there and from what I can see guys like AB have responded well to that. When the game is on the line age and experience go out the window and natural tendency comes out.

What I wrote before on this topic was that my opinion is guys like Sully and ET want to be leaders. You can't want to be a leader, you just are one.

If these guys can't get behind Smart due to his age or there own ego's then they will need to go.

Smart might win them over in time but is it worth that hassle to coach them now. If AB, Young, Crowder, KO, Zeller all look to Smart for leadership and no doubt the 23 draft picks on the way will also then lets clear the deck of those vets like we did Rondo who never will hand over control of the team.
