An observation.

I know Sully has been in the league for a year longer, but he's become more aggressive in the paint and has developed a better outside game (knocking down the 3 more often.)

Sully also has a better feel for the game. To me, his only disadvantage is he gets outplayed by more athletic power forwards in the league

Olynyk, on the other hand, looks lost. Not very aggressive, doesn't seem to know what to do with the ball, doesn't really play defense and doesn't have a consistent outside shot.

Doesn't really seem to know what he's doing.

If we are going by trade value, I'd say Sully has a lot more of it than Olynyk has right now.

The Jury still out on both players.

Yes, Sully looks like a keeper at times, but not sure he can peak past say....Carlos Boozer.  And depending who you ask that is good or disappointing.

As for Kelly; his foul issues are becoming a problem.   I mean, how many times do you need to be called for the same thing before recognizing that you need to change what you are doing.....

Every game KO will be called for a stupid foul - not on his man - and far away from the basket.  And before the 9mins mark in the 2Q he will have 2 fouls if not 3.  GUARANTEED! >:(

He is frustrating me - and I am a KO fan - and so I am sure BS is so annoyed.  I am telling you, if Zeller was playing as hot as he was a few weeks ago, KO wouldn't be sniffing as much playing time as he is now.

I like the Boozer comparison. They both have a great feel for the game on the offensive end but get killed on D.

And that extra year had nothing to do with it?

Yes KO looks lost and isn't aggressive all the time, so parts is because he reverts back to his PG days when he gets to the paint.

As of progression, Sully was more NBA ready than KO. In the first half of last season KO was completely lost, then in the second half of the season started to play well. Then in Summer league he didn't look like he got better, but then the first couple of months played pretty well. He's been up and down since. He gets to the paint better on the drive and shoots better from the out side and even added that step back. He needs to be quicker with his move in the post, thats his biggest issue.

Sully has gotten better, but hasn't had the jump like KO has. Sully is better, but with always playing the big roll, the extra year, and the first year having KG as a mentor puts him ahead, but it's not heads and shoulders. Remeber Sully gets in these funks, and plays like crap and then his daddy has to come to town to straighten him out.

Sullinger has always had more upside than KO

From day one I have felt that Sully is at his peak is a solid starting 4 with fringe allstar potential. Zach Randolph misses the issues. KO I have always felt is going to be best served as a 3rd big. His D and subsequent foul trouble will likely keep him from being a 30+ min a game contributor. As a high end bench big he can be a focal point of the offense and take advantage of softer 2nd team matchups.

When K.O. plays angry (seen it a few times)...He's the better player...he just seems happy to be here way too often...Shame, imagine if he had a Larry Bird attitude.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Sully may have been in the league a year longer than Olynyk but Sully is also a year younger than Olynyk is (March 1992 vs April 1991).

Edit: Already said up above by TheFlex.

+1.

I want next season for sully to lose 10 pounds and KO to add 5-7 pounds of strength.

We will see which player is better.

I have to give a slight edge to Olynyk, but want to stop comparing the two. Olynyk is a seven footer and big men take a while to develop. He has done a good job in his second season.  He has had played well for the most part. Sullinger said he was going to work hard last summer and take off weight. That seems to be a struggle. He reminds me of Kevin Duckworth who was a great player. I love how competitive Sullinger is, and he has great hands. They both need time. We should keep them both.

Takes 5 years for a big to develop. It's way too early to make this type of assessment unless the difference between the two players is a lot more obvious than it is. FWIW, I see more upside in KO, but doesn't mean it will get realized.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
The only thing Sullinger has on Olynyk is his 'swagger'. As others have said, it would be great if KO played with a little more anger.

If Sullinger had Olynyk's work ethic and KO had Sully's attitude, the Cs would be much better off moving forward.
