The NBA has suspended Larry Sanders for 10 game

Maybe it's a case by case basis, but J.R Smith only got 5 games when he was suspended at the beginning of last year. Does the ten game suspension indicate it's something else?

Violation #3 gets you 5 games, which Sanders served to start the year.  Violation 4 gets you 10, #5 gets you 14, and so forth.  This is marijuana only.  Harder drugs are treated much more harshly.

You can get caught using pot for the 5th time and only be suspended for 14 games? That's a triple life sentence in baseball. I guess it's good that they differentiate between marijuana and harder drugs, because they should.

Typo.  15 games.  5 more each violation.  But it takes a long long time to be suspended for even half a season.  10 violation to get even that high.  (Pun unintended, but noticed).

Sanders has been suspended 10 games and if he tests postive after that time it will be more. In related news he probably will be out for the season.

They test for PED (but not HGH).  Those penalties are much more severe.

Wait, these are paid suspensions?  I thought all league suspensions involved forfeiture of salary (to a charity, the team doesn't keep it).

Sort of.  Each game suspended costs you 1/110 of your salary.  There are 82 games per season, so you'd still get 28/110 of your salary, which for Sanders works out to a little over $10 million for the rest of his contract.  Hence my point.
