I don't understand this trader away player to free up time thing

I know Rondon won't stay, and move him can give Smart a chance. But trade Green? Do we have a star wing player in making? It sure won't be Crowder, he's a filler in a trade and will be a filler a another trade soon, who else, James Young? If he's good why he can get meaningful minutes from the coach so far?

Or maybe we just want to play bad players so we can lose more games to catch up the Knicks and T wolves. But then we tanked a bit too late(or early) cause next draft class isn't supposed to be deep.

It may not be as deep, but it is still looking pretty good.  Okafor, Mudiay, Towns, Kristaps, Winslow, Johnson, etc all look to be really good prospects.  Still shaping up to be an above average draft IMO.

His play since Rondo was traded was pretty dismal, averaging 13 ppg, 3.9 rpg and 1.8 apg. He also looked uninspired on the court - even more so than usual. If that continued, the longer Danny waited the less the Celtics would get for him. It's a win-win for everyone - Green gets to go to a playoff team, the Celtics get more picks for someone who was going to be a FA this offseason.

Ok, I get some of your points, but..

I'm not so sure that Green will definitely leave, I think he's equally likely to pick up his option and sign a bigger contract 2016. Unless we are still tanking in 2016, I think that's not a bad plan for Green or Celtics, of course that depends on DA wants him to be here, I guess DA told him to go away instead...

I disagree Crowder is a better player, nor does he have a future with this team. He did play with more effort, that's because he hasn't got any minutes for a very long time. And I don't blame Green to not be 100%, why would he do that on a tanking team?

The picks we got back in these trades are all heavily protected, so we'll trade them at some point, but what stars can you get with protected picks? We'll certainly have to package good young players, unless 3 of KO, Sully, Smart, Young, Zeller develops to the level of Big Al back in 2007, I don't see how we can get players better than Green.

I guess like Boston Garden Leprechaun said, I should embrace the tank :)
