-Offer to take on any bad multi-year contract for draft picks.  If the Knicks had any picks to trade, trying to trade the expiring contract of Bass for picks and Jose Calderon would be a no-brainer for a legit tanking team.  Maybe something like Jeff Green and Jameer Nelson for Brandon Jennings and Gigi Datome if SVG is willing to give up a first to get rid of a bad PG who he seems to hate.

-Keep James Young in the D-League and Marcus Smart coming off the bench to prevent them from developing too quickly.  You don't want them to win too many games too soon.

-Shop Sullinger.  He's not going to be one of the top three players on a contender.  You don't have to trade him, but be aggressive in finding out what he's worth and test his mental toughness by making him the subject of trade rumors.

I'm still opposed to tanking, but if I were to embrace the idea of going into full-on tank mode, that is what I would do.
This is an interesting, thought provoking suggestion for a course of action. I agree that we should shop Sullinger and Zeller too. In the summer of 2016, when I hope that we will be very active in the free agent market, those two will be in their qualifying offer year and will probably be getting higher offers than they are worth. The only three players on the current roster that interest me are Smart, Young, and maybe Olynyk(mostly because his qualifying offer year is not until 2017). I think taking on multi-year bad contracts to get more draft choices and shed some of our own veteran contracts is an excellent course but only if multi-year means this year and next. I want to have as clean a roster as possible in 2016. Letting Smart and Young play in Maine seems unnecessary to me. We are going to be bad enough if we play mostly our young players and the best way to improve your game is to play against superior competition. I don't want to artificially mess with their growth as players.

The tank is happening - Pistons won again last night, now Charlotte and Detroit are only one game back....

It should also be noted that if we keep our salary above the cap throughout the summer and into next year, then we will retain our TPE from the Rondo deal while also having a LOT of expiring contracts to work with. If we can acquire even more firsts for helping teams shed payroll next year, then eventually enough of those firsts can be used to acquire a [disgruntled] Cousins or somebody in that mold. And if not, we will still have a ton of cap space to work with in 2016.

New York doesn't have a 1st rounder available until 2018 and Calderon has 2 more years on his contract after this season so I wouldn't trade for him.  I'd be talking with Charlotte.  Something like Green for Stephenson and Wright (or Bass) for Biyombo (or Williams) plus 1 Charlotte protected 1st round pick.  If Stephenson gets his act together, great.  Otherwise give him the Bogans treatment next season and then use his unguaranteed 3rd year as a trade asset.

I think we want to keep our options open this summer.  There's a chance we'd be able to sign a star free agent or two if we clear up enough cap space.
If you were a star free agent, would you want to play on this team?

I wouldn't. This team is too far away from winning.
Depends what the team looks like this summer.   We could end up landing a very high pick in this draft... and there's still a chance one of the kids will start to break out.   And if we have the cap space to sign two (like say Rondo and Gasol), it might be doable.

Gasol is staying in Memphis.  If he left and was willing to go to a rebuilding team, why would he choose the C's over the Knicks or Lakers?  As to Rondo, why would Rondo come back after he was traded?  If we had kept him, we would have been able to offer him a 5th year but now we've lost that incentive.  Thinking a star will come to Boston now is just foolish dreaming.  From a free agency perspective, our best bet is to overpay for someone young with potential like Reggie Jackson and hope they raise their game to star level.

The Celtic desperately need a star and one is only coming through the draft. I would forget about the 2015/2016 FA classes because we're not going to be ready in time. Anybody we draft this year is going to take at least 3-4 years to develop. Unfortunately that's all we can do. Every year we don't draft a star is another year of delay.

I think Smart and Young will be keepers, but again it will take some time. I'm not so high on Sullinger and Olynyk who has fallen off a cliff.

The team has already missed out on the post-LeBron era of stars because we were contending while they were being drafted. We're now on a post-post-LeBron timetable.

this team is pretty bad so I don't think it necessarily needs much help in 'tanking'. I am in the trade-Sullinger camp though. I would rather keep KO. I'm also very intrigued about Brandan Wright.

also, hopefully Marcus Smart is able to turn things around post-ASG. I'd love for him to finish in the all-rookie 1st team somehow.

Trading Rondo signaled the start of serious "rebuilding".  I think Ainge tried to "build around" Rondo but that didn't work.  I think we are rebuilding more gracefully than NYK or PHI, at least so far.  Call it tanking or whatever you want but we are now doing it.

Second, I think we have enough draft picks, at least for 2015 and 2016.  Unless the draft pick is a sure fire top 10 pick or something like that, more picks are not going to help.

I really don't see us doing much of anything.  Maybe the likes of Bass or Thornton can be traded for younger players but since we don't need more picks, these trades seem unlikely to improve us much.  (Trading deck chairs for deck chairs).

It is going to be a couple of years of collecting assets I'm afraid which means no playoffs likely.  I think Ainge will look closely at fairly priced FAs who can be locked up for 3-5 years (as assets) but I doubt we will end up with anyone big this off season.  It would not surprise me to see Ainge spend some money on 2nd or 3rd tier FAs that are a good value.

Just because they have fallen off a cliff, doesn't mean that they'll recover. They're young and talented and like you said It'll take time.

This reflects my thoughts too."...

I d rather have One pick from the three , than 6 picks from 12-20

If your going to play lottery ...then do it right ......go for the top three nothing less.
