Well if anything, this just confirms that I wasn't off-base with my analysis of Rondo over the past few years. Ainge clearly agrees with me. He's been trying to dump him for years, failed because nobody wanted to give up assets, and ultimately settled for some middling role players and a late 1st.
So the team must understand that Rondo's impact is overstated. The team must recognize that we've consistently played better without him. They must acknowledge that ROndo doesn't fit into the style of system Brad wants to play. They must realize we have better guards to build around.
The return is disappointing, but I'm already over it. Much like Antoine Walker, Ainge realized his "star" player wasn't actually a star... and got rid of him so we could make steps towards the greater good. I loved Rondo. I loved Walker too. But both were flawed players that didn't fit into the vision.
No guarantee the Mavs are better with ROndo's ball-dominating. I like that we have committed to a direction and are ready to embrace our youth. I think in time, a lot more people will come to the realization that Rondo was a top 50 player with inflated statistics.
