How about KG pre-Celts?

Um, an MVP in 2003-04 and Minnesota had the best record in the league that year.  Unless that was supposed to be a joke.
second best actually.  Indiana had 3 more wins.

Melo is a winner. No surprise he's frustrated in NYK where he has one of the worst supporting casts of his career. If Danny has a chance to get him, he should go for it.

How can you want a punk like this on the Celts?

Im going to beat you up? Losing his cool vs KG was pathetic also. The guy might be a talented player but is immature lacks character and leadership.

Why do you want BS and the rest of the team to deal with a guy like this?? Is all you care about is flashy skills?

I dont even want to trade Rondo to the Knicks if that was our last resort.

You mean after KG told Melo his wife tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios? I don't know if that's true or not but you're a bit naive if you think KG was speaking to him politely. It was a close game and they were two top teams at the time. I'd rather have a player who is fiery and shows passion on the court than one who lets KG walk all over him.

I'd rather have a player who can lead by example by keeping his emotions in check.  Followed KG out to the team bus after the contest to challenge him to a fight - yeah, that's the knucklehead I want as face of our franchise and on-court leader... ::)

Frustration doesn't mean they are desperate.

For all the flak Melo takes I've never seen him be comfortable with losing before, and he seems that way this year.  NY has been targeting the 2015 offseason since Amar'e's body broke down and the Bargnani trade went exactly the way you'd expect; I wonder if Melo and management made some tacit agreement when he re-signed that the team would stink this year and try to add both a top draft pick and some high-end free agents in the offseason.

Carmelo is a great scorer but someone remind me why he is thought of as that good of basketball player??????
This is the guy who came out as the number 2 guy behind Lebron.  Not only has Lebron separated himself by a pretty far margin but a group of other nba players have risen while carmelo plays half hearted defense, doesn't dominate rebounding like he should for his position/size and has glue on his hands for moving the ball.
I look at it this way, several teams (including Boston) went Ga-Ga over a chance to get Kevin Love.  I think Carmelo is a more valuable player than Kevin Love.  So if Ainge was ready to make a big play for Love, why not do it for Carmelo?
He's a lot older and might need knee surgery.  And we would have to acquire another star to go with him who is still in his prime.

Melo has been a pretty durable player over the years (more durable than Love) but the recent development over his knee is a concern of course.  If it is a real issue, that changes everything.  I think Melo is young enough to continue to be productive for the 4-5 years left on his contract.

Not sure I follow the "acquire another star" concern, wouldn't that be the case even if we got LeBron?  Is that something you consider unique to Melo?

I would prefer to go after a younger player unless Ainge had another deal up his sleeve like when he acquired Ray and KG to go with Pierce.  A younger player would buy him some more time to make such a deal.  If we give up a lot for Melo, we might not have enough pieces to add more quality anytime soon.  And Although Rondo and Melo is a good combination, we would still not be close to a contender.

I'm not really interested in going after Carmelo Anthony, but I think any trade for him should be made with the idea that he would be the starting PF, not SF.  I don't think he wants to do that, though.

We aren't winning anything for years to come because of the Cavs. And getting that goofball would probably keep us from getting a younger player to build around. I don't see Rondo/Melo bringing us any Championships only 1 and 2 round playoff exits to the Cavs, Bulls or other teams. I'd rather stink for a few more years, let the good teams in the east get old and then start winning.

The poster I was responding to essentially asserted that unless you win an NBA championship, you're not a winner.

I agree with you, KG was a winner even before Boston. Though if I'm interpreting you correctly, you're saying KG was a winner pre-Celts, but Melo isn't.

Melo won an NCAA championship in his only year in college. In the NBA with little help, he's gone to the WCFs, much like KG. Get him help and there's no reason why he couldn't be the face of a title-winning franchise, again, much like KG.
