  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I'm going to TP LarBrd33 on this one. I also find it interesting that we have such adequate back-ups at every position. There was a story on the front page last week saying that the Cs need to lean more on their starters and I actually thought quite the opposite...and tonight proved this more than ever.

While there is obviously no way we can trade two of our SGs for one really good one, the logic in trading a SG, a PF, and a first for an upgrade [at SG, PF, or C] certainly makes sense . I agree that this roster is tailor-made for trades. We have very decent talent depth at all positions, but no certain all-stars. With our draft picks, it should certainly be possible to build our roster up (rather than trade Rondo/Green and tank as others have suggested).

"Unfortunately NBA players are not fungible assets. What teams are willing to trade two inferior players for a superior one? There are very few elite players in the NBA and trading for them is exceedingly difficult."

Agreed... The Spurs do alright. Their bench is a bit redundant. Depth that can emulate a starters' role is important. A panic trade could mess up the chemistry.

After the first five teams in the East, who can't we beat? Had we beat the Wiz tonight we're on a 4 game win streak and in 8th. The 6th - 8th seed is in play. The Nets, Hawks, and Bucks are not scary teams.
good post. I'm hoping the Cs take care of business in these next five games. I think if we win 4 of these games, which are all winnable, we will be right there with the bucks and nets.

I would SO sell high on Jeff Green right now... no question.  One does not take a leap at age 28.  He is what he is.

I think Marcus Smart is the only player on this team I'd hesitate to trade.
What do you think selling high on Green would be?
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz

Just wondering, based on the OP, whether the players available from elsewhere  would be an upgrade, on our present guys, or whether anyone who would be a clear upgrade is available. Maybe at the deadline there will be a few desperate GMs willing to talk, just now I'm enjoying what good basketball BS is getting out of our roster.

Rondo and Smart far from redundant. KO and Sully, far from redundant. I get you're disappointed, but that's crazy talk, homey.

How about Green, Bass & a first-- for Drummond & Josh Smith?

MKG can't carry Green's duffel bag. C'mon man. The only reason that's a consideration is because we suck and MKG is 21. But would you pay MKG what you pay Green?

MKG is the opposite of Green in a lot of ways.   He's weak in traditional statistics, but he improves the team seemingly every way when he's on the court.  I think his absence is the main reason the Hornets are struggling right now.   I'd love to have him.  I don't think you could normally get MKG for Jeff Green... but like i said, Jeff Green's stock is as high as it's probably ever going to get.   Now is the time to sell high.

I honestly couldn't tell you who would win in a seven game series, the Celtic starters or the Celtic bench. Lol.

Seriously...

PG - Rondo
SG - Bradley
SF - Green
PF - Sully
C - Zeller

vs

PG - Smart
SG - Thornton (or Young?)
Sf - Turner
PF - Bass
C - Olynyk

... I think it would be really competitive and come down to chemistry.  Having mediocrity all over your team isn't necessarily a good problem to have.   I'd much rather have 5 solid guys we could lean on for 34mpg and 5 weak guys we go to for 14mpg.

Nice way to shred your credibility. You're the Rick Pitino of internet GMs.

MKG's improved by leaps and bounds!!! Like McLemore with his sub-10 PER only MKG rose to the heavens in just six games this year after 2 disappointing seasons. Before his stress fracture.

A guy who's more athletic hustler than talented now has a stress fracture in his foot. Wonderful future.

I wouldn't worry about it colin... Hornets fans themselves consider MKG to be their most valuable asset ... even moreso than Al Jefferson.  Saw it on a poll they did a couple days ago.   I'm sure Ainge would trade Green for MKG... but don't count on the Hornets biting.

I just don't think it is a good idea to have your starting SF be a worse three-point shooter than Rondo.
