If the Cavs have a trainwreck season, could we sign Kevin Love?

Why would we want him, I think the stint in CLE ought to show a lot about him.

Wasn't like it was his choice to be traded to Cleveland.  It was Minnesota's choice to deal him there because Cleveland had the best trade package.

Similarly to when KG and Pierce were dealt to Brooklyn. That wasn't their choice, it was Danny Ainge's. Sure KG had to waive his NTC, but he knew the writing was on the wall and what direction Ainge wanted to take the team.

This ignores that fact that Kevin Love pretty much manipulated his way to Cleveland, who just so happened to have the best trade package as well. Kevin Love wanted to be traded there, he got traded there... the "choice" aspect of it is unimportant.

Guess I fail to see how he "manipulated" his way to Cleveland. If he had a no trade clause and told Minny, "the only team I will accept a trade to is Cleveland" then I can see that being the case.

But it wasn't the case. It had more to do with Flip Saunders being a pinhead and not wanting anything Danny Ainge had to offer, as well as Cleveland getting extremely "lucky."

You forget the fact that teams were unwilling to give premium assets for a one-year rental, there was a *wink* *wink* agreement that Love would opt-in into his contract to go to Cleveland, which gave a lot of advantage to that organization because of their willingness to give more value.

Sure, Love contractually can still do what he wants, but he did put a bit of pressure on Minnesota to get a deal done with Cleveland and that definitely influences the value of the trade packages.

Well sure, there's no doubt once Lebron went to Cleveland, that Love's interest in going to play there skyrocketed.

Because I do remember Love wanting nothing to do with Cleveland in the earlier part of the summer before Lebron went there.

Guess my next question would be, if you're Kevin Love, wouldn't you want to play with Lebron after the awful team you had to deal with in Minnesota?

They won't win the title this year, PoP is resting Duncan already ,   For a repeat .....too many better or as good teams in West .

I'll predict Bron will give them next year and possible 2017 to get her done.  Three max.

Three years and no ring .... I predict ...he bolts ....and then

He rebuilds again at Chicago  or  LA to play out his tenure as " King James". Another three year run and done.

Without a better .....read unselfish assist oriented point guard .....Cavs aren't winning it all this year .


Put LeBron on the Wizzards or Trailblazers or Bulls  and it's ...Ring time.

It's funny you say that. I also thought maybe Lebron bolts for the Lakers in 2016 after Kobe retires and they probably offer Lebron anything he wants.

BUT, I think he actually stays in Cleveland this time around. I think his brand would take too big a hit if he left again.

I will say this however, if Cleveland does fail to win a championship this year, they will make more big moves next summer NOT involving Lebron.

For example, I could definitely see a Rondo for Kyrie swap as a possibility next summer (sign and trade) if Cleveland thinks Rondo would fit better with LBJ and Love then Kyrie does.

Didn't he agree to an extension in Cleveland when he was traded?

I don't think he did.

If I recall, there was some sort of "verbal agreement" in place, but I believe technically Love could still opt out next summer, if he wanted to.

He won't he's just waiting on the TV deal, just like Lebron.

Also I wouldn't hold my breath on Cleveland sucking all year.  Miami went 9-8 to start before starting to play like a team.  The 2008 Celtics gelling from day one were a glorious exception, not the rule.  They have some issues to sort out, namely getting Irving out of the "I have to score us 30 a night, or we are out of this" mentality he developed when the Cavs sucked.

I heard an amazing stat on 98.5's post game that he took something like 40 shot attempts in between his last 2 assists. They need to get him involved in moving the ball, they have to many good offensive pieces to play iso all the time.

I agree with all of this.  We are only 5-6 games into the season and KI, Love and Lebron are going to need some time to form a cohesive team.  It is a lot of adjustment for all 3, but mainly KI and Love.  It may take 2-3 months to get in sync, but they most likely will.  Being able to move Thompson to the bench gives them better depth.  I think they are more 2011 Heat than 2012-2013 Lakers w/ Dwight.

So, no I don't see a train wreck for the cavs, and I see no way that Love jumps ship from a serious contender that will only get better to a celtic team that has a long way to go.

If it is a train wreck then it is possible C's sign him. I still believe Love wants a pass first PG, and good defenders to back him up. C's have the PG and some decent perimeter defenders yet no good defensive big inside.

Do think train wreck is still unlikely.
