I believe Brooklyn will be a playoff team or near playoff team for the next 5 years at least.  They are in a major market, they like to spend money, and they have a number of quality players.

You could have made that same case for the Knicks heading into last season. Brooklyn's roster is better but has a very tenuous hold on their collective health.

But I'd be relatively happy with "near playoff team" in '15-'16.

The BK window was last year. It is closed. They suck now.

Lopez - never a good defender and he can't stay healthy

Deron - haven't seen the max player version of him in 4 years or so

JJ - best player on the team but a far far cry from a superstar. Jeff Green can match what he does.

KG - Sadly, his goose is cooked. Bit player at this point.

AK47 - Long gone.

Intl Dudes - decent 3 pt, not much else

J. Jack - Nice back up PG

All that spells about 29 wins to me. Celts will get more wins.

I think Deron Williams is the key.  If he is relatively healthy, a top two of Williams and Johnson can keep them in the playoffs.  If Lopez stays on the court (which I doubt he will consistently), they are an ECF threat.

I see it lasting only one or two more seasons though.  What happens after that is anyone's guess but it seems unlikely that they could fully rebuild without a dip in play for a couple of seasons.  They are a big market team but it does not seem they would be a big FA destination.  They are more of a sinking ship than a rising team.

2014-15               Playoffs
2015-16               Just Miss playoffs
2016-17               Bottom out
2017-18               Probably still bad but who knows

On paper ...they look great ...see the BIG names ...

Now watch reality

See them fall apart  by 15 games into the season.    They will all be injured.

I think they might still be a playoff team this year...though any serious injuries and they're toast. I see them being pretty bad next season. Also, wrt them having an owner that wants to spend money...they don't really have many options. they really can't sign anyone significant, as they have little cap space. they also have no picks to package with any players (though who would trade much for anything on their roster?). and they're not a team that will attract free agents to take low money deals to win b/c...yeah, they're not that good. last year was their year to make things happen. kidd killed that early, then lopez getting hurt slammed their contention window shut. we are going to really enjoy getting all those picks from them/using them as trading chips, b/c they will be pretty good ones.

I figure they'll fight for the 8 spot this year and really start to slide back in the standings starting in 2016 and will stink through 2018 at a minimum regardless of an increasing cap.  having cap room means nothing if there's no good players to sign or no good players who will sign there.

If Lopez is healthy, and that is a huge "if", we best be hitting our jumpers because I would not see us doing as well inside.
