I'm not undertanding what it is that you're asking. When we drafted Young, both Gordon and Lavine were long gone. Then you mentioned Heinsohn drafting centers, but neither of those players are centers either.

I am not sure if I understand the intent of the thread but regarding Gordon, I really liked him and was hoping that was who the Celtics got. Our course you could project that maybe we got lucky and Young will be as good or better than Gordon.

In his first and only preseason game, Gordon got 6 pts and 8 rebounds in 29 minutes. Not sure we have seen nearly enough of either to do any meaningful comparison or grading of the draft. Hypothetically, if I could trade Young for Gordon straight up right now, I think I would do that trade.

Zach LaVine? He never did much for me. He got 5 pts, 5 rebs, 5 TO, and 4 Assts on 22% shooting in 25 minutes in one preseason game. No, I would not trade Smart for him right now if given the chance, or Young.

Overall, I have been pretty happy with Ainge's drafting. Drafting is a crap shoot, you are going to have some picks that just don't work out. How in the world he thought Fab Melo could play has me still scratching my head though. That is Ainge's worst pick every. Melo is a fringe D-League player.

apologize for confusion,was just trying to find out if young after seeing him a bit was better choice than gordon or lavine-and i thought ainge has done a superb job picking up sullinger in a late round and moving up for olynck and now adding turner a number 2 pick once and then getting powell as a 2nd rounder we didn't have this year---

has anybody got any stats on the survival rate of these athletic freaks like gordon and lavine - i spent month on crutches from coming down on someones foot two years in a rowand it really screws up your shooting . kelly a perfect example last year-

the question is, James Young vs everyone after 16th.. and the only person that I wouldve given a second look to is Clint Capela... only because of potential as a 5.... but James is quality skill. Both smart and young are relatively low-risk picks. You know what you'll get from them.

what you said...back during draft day, when I was talking with my friends, what happens if we trade Rondo for another lotto pick my answer was

Smart and Gordon or Smart and Randle were my top choices (cuz I firmly believed that Rondo could not get us a top 3)

In the teens, for some odd reason, I REALLY wanted Adrien Payne, and the Hawks got him 2 spots ahead of us

I totally agree with almost everything you say here. It's definitely early and I agree with your assessments on Young, Gordon, Smart and LaVine.

On the Fab Melo pick -- it was a #22 pick and Danny had just had Jared Sullinger fall into his lap at #21. Fab had an ideal center's physicals. I think he basically rolled the dice that he could fix Fab's skills as a companion to the way he was rolling the dice that they could fix Sully's back. The result so far is that Sully's body seems to have been fixed but Fab's skills were not.

Also, consider that, after Fab, the ONLY big men picked after him in that draft who has done _anything_ of NBA besides sit on a bench or play in the D-League is Moultrie --- who we just saw playing for the mighty Sixers this last Monday and Miles Plumlee.

Danny needed a big man. Both his picks were gambles. One paid off. One didn't. The net result is he has a big man out of that draft.

If he had picked Perry Jones, like so many wanted him to do, the result would be the same.

It seems every time Danny gets a high pick (which isn't very often), he hits. Smart looks like another hit if we have to judge today.

Sullinger, Olynyk, & Young were all further down the draft slots but Ainge obviously went with best available at the draft position, & even jumped up a bit for Olynyk. Hard to argue with any of these selections. Solid picks for where you drafted them at.

At the time, I would've selected Giannis over Olynyk. But now as I watch both 2 seasons in, Olynyk would be my choice. I think Ainge hit & hit big with this young Canadian.

I think Ainge has done a solid job at drafting throughout his tenure. Smart will be a great addition this year, & in 3/4 years, everyone will look back and not only rave about Smart, but Young will be starting and outperforming most selected before him.

Home run draft for the C's this year.

just going to ignore the garbled madlib but the answer is, most definitely, Gordon>Lavine>Young. Lavine is a freak athlete who shoots the 3 and showed a surprising degree of skill in SL. The main knock on him is that he is incredibly skinny, and he currently lacks PG skills. Gordon, there is just no comparison. He is awesome at everything besides shooting. His 40-some FT% will have to improve, but even if he shoots 60% from the line and never takes another jumpshot ever, he could still be great. Awesome finishing ability, some handles, and perimeter D second only to Smart in this draft.

He was a crappy college player to be honest. If was gamble if he failed it was expected and if it worked he'd looked brilliant.
