As a big fan of Rondo, I surely hope the woman was talking BS. If it were true, to be frank, I would lose all my respect to Rondo. After the first losing season in a few years, where the team named Rondo the captain and centered the offense around him, he already wants out? That sounds really bad to me. If the rumor is false and Rondo still cares about his reputation, not only among the Celtics fans, but also around the general NBA fans, he should really rebuke this rumor on Twitter or something ASAP.

From my perspective, Jackie Mac has not been known to be a reporter to make up stuff......I don't know about other people's persepectives.....has she been known to have a reputation to make crap up?

I also hope it's false, but I don't lose respect if it's true. He can see that it will be a long rebuild, not just one losing season. It might be in everyone's best interest, including the Celtics', for him to move on. If that's the decision he's made, then I hope he does say so to the C's organization so that we can trade him instead of losing him for nothing.

I see it as a realistic view from Rondo. Let's face it, this team isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It's at least a few years before we become a contender again, and that's if everything goes right.

I personally see Rondo going to the Knicks in the offseason to play with Melo

I didn't believe it at first, but I thought more about it and it makes sense somewhat, and Jackie M is a pretty reliable source. While this is the millionth Rondo trade rumor, this is the first that I'm actually believing.

Why wouldn't it be true? The timing of it makes complete sense. Melo resigned in New York, and Kevin Love went to Cleveland. The best thing Boston got out of its assets this summer was Marcus Smart, who conveniently plays Rondo's position.

Rondo is a professional athlete in his prime who has already sustained a major injury in his career. He knows his window isn't open forever. He waited to see how Boston could play its cards this summer, and nothing materialized. As a big Rondo fan, not only do I respect how he played this out, I understand that a trade is best for everyone involved, too. If Boston can't pull things together anytime soon, I'd rather we get some value out of Rondo, and I'd also rather see Rondo put his best years to good use on a winning team.

I'm also not sure how this hurts his reputation. Swear to god, people fish for anything to smear Rondo's image. It's not like he went out himself and demanded a trade. In every public media appearance this summer, Rondo has been a complete professional. This story leaks a rumor - and it's called a rumor for a reason - of private discussions between Rondo and the upper management. If a player wants out, that's the proper way to do it.

I agree this shouldn't effect Rondo's image especially after all his campaigning this off-season. Never seen Rondo being so publicly pro team as this off-season. He has done a lot to improve his public relations. He talked about Love and Melo helping us be great again. DA couldn't pull it off.

I don't think that the offense was any more centered around Rondo than it had been since 2011 or so. I would expect that people will ask Danny or Rondo about this rumor fairly soon, but  there probably isn't much to it at all.

This is my thought on all of this drama

1. Rondo wants to stay.  Ray Allen made a comment several seasons before about rumors that both of them might be gone by the deadline. Maybe it was a joke or nothing serious, but Rondo took it seriously and this is where their relationship went downhill

2. He wants to stay but also wants the money and more star quality players in the lineup. If Danny won't offer the type of money Rondo is looking for and/or can't add star level players (nobody to dance with) and Rondo does get the money he is looking for and guys like Harden, Cousins are begging him to come over,  there is a real good chance he will leave

3.  Danny knows Rondo has to play for his life this upcoming season. If he does, he can get ready to make an offer by the all star festivities.  If he does but won't commit to resigning for the long term, then Danny can trade him for more at the deadline.

4. If Rondo just plays a little better than last season and his injury looks like it will permanently affect him,  Danny will definitely look to trade him to a playoff bound team (but likely won't get as much as if we traded him now).

5. Danny has Marcus Smart and worse case AB ready to take over the starting PG spot.

So bottom line is, Rondo has to have a great year in order for him to stay with/lead the team for the long term.  The team has to produce wins also and be better than last seasons version. If not, DAnny knows Rondo might walk by the end of the year.

Imo the realistic outcome is going to be what happened in 2012-2013 season.  Rondo does put up decent numbers, but hogs the ball, doesn't play focused defense and the team doesn't get anywhere.  Rondo knows how to stat pad and learned to do it from the best (PP, KG). But those guys also knew what it took to win games, if it meant  to give up the ball to a hotter scorer or take charges and do different things on the defensive end to get stops.   The worse thing Danny can do , is sign Rondo for the next 5 seasons, we keep finishing 9-11th, never get a decent draft pick ,  nobody wants to come here to play and remain stuck in mediocrity

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't believe the narrative that Jackie Mac completely fabricates rumors for attention.  She's well-respected.  Despite the off-cited fact that she reported on flip-flopping KG wanting to retire (he probably did), she seems pretty darn credible to me.

Wow, one person says something and BAM!!! we're 5-10 years away from sniffing anything. all these nice pieces we have accumulated mean absolutely nothing. everything down the toilet because no Rondo!!!
Well guys, here's what I'm going to do.  as soon as NBA League Pass is available from DirecTV I will purchase it so I don't miss one of these games no matter who the Celtics have playing for them. then I'm gonna sit back and watch them get into the playoffs and surprise all of you negative Nancys!!!

She's probably reported plenty of rumors that never came true, just like every other reporter. Do you consider that to be making crap up?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I don't see why it's rondo's place to deny anything. Why does he have to put out fires he didn't leak (assuming it wasn't his agent)?

It's the organization's role to provide cover and buffer for him. Moreso if the leak came on their end, and even if it was true.

Jack Mac needs to go stand by her statements first. Looks like she asked for the vid to be removed.
