1.) 1 game on ESPN, 3 on NBA TV, while LAL has 25+ Nat. TV games despite being in a similar situation as the Celtics. I know LA is a big market team, but surely the Celtics deserved at least a few more ESPN games. 1 ESPN and 3NBA TV games is pretty much the same as the Bucks/76ers every year in terms of Nat. TV schedule. I hope the Celtics make the schedule makers/TV networks rue not having them for more games  8)

2.) No home stands of 3+ games this season. Really? We have one 5-6+ road stand, and many stretches of 5-6 road games in an 8 game stretch, but no home stand of 3+ games. We always had some 5-6 game home stands in the past years....

3.) First 14 games look brutal. We play quite a few teams who were in the playoffs or just missed them last season. If we can get 5-6 wins in that early stint, i'll be pleased. Honestly I see us starting 0-3 after playing BKN, then AT DAL and HOU. We may squeeze a win out of BKN but that's prob it.

4.) This is actually a good thing (sort of). 18 back to back games, 2 less than last year. However, we have some brutal back to back games, such as IND then CHI early in the season (NOV 7-8) and BKN then WSH in December (26-27).

I guess we'll have to deal with it, and hope for the best with the Celtics this season. As many probably noted, I was usually optimistic in my posts saying we could get 38-41 wins. Looking at this schedule, it looks like 32-35 now, maybe less (30?). We are no doubt a better team than last year, but not at the playoff caliber status yet. I don't see us tanking this year either, so..

I'm sure the Celtics will be added to national TV if their play warrants it.

I counted 18 sets of back-to-backs, not 18 games. Unless you're only counting the 2nd game as the back-to-back? And is that really fewer than last season?

not concerned with national broadcasts since I get Mike and Tommy on CSN.

back to backs aren't a concern either since we no longer have the excuse of being an older team.  if anything, with all the young legs we have that should be to our advantage.

as for who we play starting off, well, we have to play them sometime.  might as well get them over with.  A tough starting schedule typically means an easier finish.

Considering our roster, I like it. The tough schedule will help our draft pick outlook, and the lack of national TV games can allow us to fly under the radar and keep a mystique around our prospects instead of having their flaws exposed.

I get what you're saying, but I kind of like the fact that they're not on Nat'l tv..there for I don't have to listen to ESPN or TNT talk about how much they suck during half time. Let the Lakers catch that heat  ;D

That does the complete opposite of irk me.  I am overcome with pleasure and excitement that I don't have to listen to ESPN's completely embarassing broadcasting crews (at least during Celtics games).  Bring on the Mike and Tommy!!
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I don't like national tv, but at the same time I enjoy the bump in exposure as far as discussion goes that they bring. So while I prefer watching the games with Mike and Tommy, sacrificing a few games to be part of the national conversation (even if I abhor it) is usually preferable.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
People may not care about being on national tv, but the fact that LA has SO many more games than us is pretty lame. Good point by the OP.

The Nat TV games do not matter. It's the complete and utter disrespect the NBA is showing us with lack of a 4 game homestand.  We are getting the rookie treatment because our team  is so young. So, only veteran teams get 5+ games homestands? We only get a couple of 3 games?  It's complete crap and yes I'm irked.

At first I was fuming about the Celtics/Lakers TV coverage disparity.

Then I realised how much fun it would be to watch Kobe Bryant and his monolithic ego burn out to nothingness and irrelevance on as big a stage as possible.

We'll just quietly get on with improving away from the spotlight of the Lakers' omni-shambles.

That starting 10 games is an absolute stinker though.

A few of these points would have a lot more validity if NBA teams played in single purpose arenas.

Only six teams have fewer back-to-backs.

If we were contending, yeah, but since we are contending for a lotto pick, I think the schedule is pretty sweet.

As for LA, yeah it's lame, but it will be awesome if they suck again and watch them implode on national TV.

LAL only get on national TV more because it's Kobe Bryant AND Jeremy Lin the phenomenal PG is on that roster lol.

Boy that HOU @ LAL game will be interesting. Watching their fans scorn Dwight Howard and J-Lin playing hard against Houston would be fun.
