I have never understood why they don't compare smart to westbrook. they are both point guard  and beasts on defense. smart is an inch taller than westbrook. They both also us their defense to translate to offense. westbrook is also a bully in the paint. westbrook is a better shooter for sure but I think smart is a little better defensively. tell me what you think about my comparisons and who you think marcus might be most like.

I have heard that comparison as well. Whether it's D.Wade or Westbrook, I will be satisfied with whichever if Smart does play like one of them.

Physically or in how they play I don't see much to compare the two other than, "hey they're big!"

Westbrook's most outstanding trait is his off-the-charts athleticism. Smart is athletic but not like that. He somewhat makes up for it with a big edge in strength and a slight edge in length. Yeah, Smart will be a better defender due to his instincts and toughness, but he's unlikely to come close to Westbrook in terms of scoring ability. He could be a better passer though. It isn't a bad comparison overall as their bowling-ball offensive style is fairly similar.

Yep.  I agree with this.  Different body types but similar games.

In my opinion, the one word that screams out at you when describing Westbrook is explosiveness.
Marcus Smart on the other hand is motor.  Speed is the main difference that makes them a bad comparison to me.  Marcus Smart though a lot slower, has better size and wing span, elite instincts on defense, and further down their careers i think will become a better shooter than Westbrook.  Overall Marcus Smart is the more fundamental player and Westbrook is more flashy.

Well that stinks considering Dwade without his explosiveness is a garbage player.

I do 't see them being same player at all.   Only thing ...both are guards, in the NBA and intense players.

Westbrook is more skilled offensive , more graceful and quicker....quiet killer .

At the moment I see a Smart hanging his hat on defense first .  He disrupts the offense, get in their way and heads .  He is more of KGs mind games and I expect this talking and intimidation tactics to on increase a lot .  ......

I can see CP3 and Smart as mortal enemies .  cP3 won't enjoy playing Smart.

Smart goes though people to,the bucket .....Westbrook around and over them with quickness

Other than same intense level to compete ......their games are different right now.

Smart will smack you down ....... Westbrook is a bit of a whiner and pouts

I think he will be a lot better on defense.  And I pray his shot selection will be better.  Westbrook is one of the better athletes I've ever seen, so Smart won't be there, but he will be very strong.

Absolutely false.  One of the best SGs of all time.  More than just an athlete.  He can't shoot three but has skills elsewhere.

I disagree on the athleticism point. See chart of their combine numbers. He only loses the 3/4 sprint, and barely. I'll take the additional weight on Smart if he's jumping higher and has more agility, but loses a bit of sprint.

Seriously?

Still a heck of a player. Some boards also compare him to lance stephenson

The 25 lbs alone separates Smart and Westbrook quite a bit. Height and length matches well, but I think Smart shares more in common w/ Chauncey than Westbrook.

Chauncey was also 6'3" and carried a bit more weight, around 210. He'd use the size and strength to bully defenders.

College stats compare closely over each player's 2 year average:
Chauncey:  18.5 pts, 5.1 ast, 5.6 rbs, .413, .382, .857 in 34 mins.
Smart: 16.6 pts, 4.5 ast, 5.9 rbs, .488, .295, .751 in 33 mins.

Chauncey shot worse from 2 but better from 3 and at the line. Points, assists and boards are all in the same ballpark, especially in the Sophomore seasons.

If Smart can peak out at 18 and 8 like Chauncey, that'd be great.

First, you are underselling the speed difference. To beat someone by 0.18 over 25 yards is a really large margin of victory.

Second, raw speed is one thing, but Westbrook's real superpower is that he can go to the rim at near full speed and still maintain incredible balance and touch. There are other guys in the league who have posted similar speed numbers, but they don't have the ability to actually play as fast as Westbrook. For example, Jodie Meeks is just as fast, but he isn't going around terrorizing people.
