Third-year players are usually not playing in summer league, except the journeymen who never really stuck around the NBA

He don't play because he would eat the minutes given to Mike Moser & Iverson if he was there & we need him to get ready for the begining of the season, not the summer league.

cuz he's a junior in the league...pretty rare for a 3rd year player to play in meaningless games...summer leagues are for rookies and sophmores to shine and polish their games a little bit in non-pressured environment

Not in summer league because like others have said he is a 3rd year established player. Better off letting management see other guys in game situations.

For those who are down on Sully for his weight. Remember he spent most of last summer in bed after back surgery. I personally think any weight related judgment should wait till preseason when we see if he has gotten back down to the 260s. If he hasn't then fire away.

Building Olynyk's confidence is a lot more important than the couple calories Sullinger would burn against weak summer league competition.  It is good for Olynyk to be the best player on a team, it might help him become a leader on the second unit.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

he's too busy eating cheeseburgers.  he makes me nervous.  2-3 months after the season he's talking about how he needs to improve his conditioning.  It's like, dude, what have you been doing the past 3 months?  Get it together!

I don't think 3rd year players are allowed..? Think it's just for rookies and 2nd year players...at least it used to be.
I thought I seen some guys who've been around longer than a couple years but maybe you're right

Jeremy Lamb and Perry Jones are both third-year players who are currently playing for OKC's Summer League.  Reggie Jackson did the same thing last year.

Yeah and that says a lot about their development. Even Isiah Thomas questioned OKC's decision to that on the broadcast.

When the Summer League was first advertised for this year, Sully was announced as playing, I heard it myself.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if this probably has more to do with trying to protect his value due to how out of shape he is

Sully probably never had to worry about his weight until getting to the NBA and his back surgery likely made it difficult to do anything about it for his first two years in the league.  He needs to show effort and discipline with it this year but I'm not worried if he's blown up like a balloon right now.  At his age, shedding pounds is nothing.  It's when you start to creep up into your 30s that gaining and losing weight becomes a losing battle.
