That is an absolute steal for the Clippers. When stuff like this happens why don't they say THIS is the market instead of Meeks, which was just stupid?

Hawes seems like a Doc Rivers type of player.  The Clippers needed big man depth.

More reason for FAs to stay East

Makes me feel we really over-paid Avery Bradley.

I rather have had Hawes than Bradley
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Spencer Hawes wasn't going to settle for this deal if it wasn't to a championship contender, who most are limited to what they can offer as it is (if they have interest in him that is).

He wasn't going to come to this team or a like one for pennies.

So no, this isn't his market value.

Because this is a clear outlier among new contracts thus far.

I wonder if other teams offered more to Hawes and he just preferred to go to the Clippers.  I'd be shocked if this was the most he could get.

He took a discount so Sterling could pay his lawyers.

It seems like most reasonable free agency signings so far this year have been made by Western Conference teams.

Didn't realize the Clippers had cap space. I thought all they had at their disposal was the MLE, but isn't the MLE limited to 3 years. Something doesn't add up here.

The "full" MLE is up to 4 years.  It's only the taxpayer's MLE that is limited to 3.

I don't like the money. I don't think Hawes is worth that.

Especially not in a backup center role behind DeAndre Jordan. Jordan should be playing ~35 minutes a night so Hawes should only be getting 12-15mpg. $6 million a year is a lot for a 12 minute a night bench player. Both guys are one position players so playing them together will rarely be a good option.

Hawes is a bad defensive player too. So Clips will still have interior defense issues whenever DeAndre Jordan goes to the bench. It's not like they have a high quality perimeter defense to compensate / offset / hide interior defense issues.

The one thing that gives me pause is the idea of Chris Paul with a center as skilled as Hawes who is a strong outside shooter (and passer) and can open up the court for everyone else. Get Blake Griffin lots of space in the paint. And give CP3 and Crawford great driving lanes to exploit.  That is an interesting situation. I wonder if CP3 can exploit Hawes well enough to make this contract & signing a good move for LAC.

Nah, I doubt it. Too much money. Too small a role. Won't have enough of an impact. Money could have been better invested elsewhere (backup PF, wing defender, backup PG).

Yeah I think this is a great deal. Fair from a money standpoint. Fills a need. Hawes will fit nicely in that system.

That's the mini-MLE. They're using the Non-Taxpayer MLE.
