I'd be fine with 'Melo going to LA. Usually, I root against the Lakers in any and all free agent acquisitions.

In this case, though, it would be perfect. 'Melo is good, but not good enough to carry a team on his own (as has been proven now across multiple years). Between him and Kobe, their cap space is basically gone. Gasol and Nash are effective in spurts but too old to be consistent. LA signing 'Melo just keeps them in mediocrity.

Even with Randle (this may come as a surprise to some of you, but Randle is not going to be a star. I don't think he is going to be a bust; I expect him to be a very serviceable NBA player, even a starter. But he won't be a star).

Melo and Kobe won't work out in my opinion. And I think Melo will stay with NY if he wants the money more, and lets be honest, the Lakers aren't contenders this year. His best shot for contender status is Houston or Chicago.

i wonder if we can help them shed steve hash's contract to get assets. It would be great if we can help facilitate them and get Randle.

Randle's their only asset though, and I can't see them dealing him simply for us to take on Nash's money. My guess is it'd take dealing Rondo for Randle + Nash, and they might not even be willing to do that. I don't think they can deal a first round pick until 2019. If I were Ainge I'd probably jump on Nash and their 2019 pick for the trade exception, if that were the best offer out there.

This would ensure no title ,  these two clowns could never play on the floor at the same time.

Four or fifth place seed would be about it for LA .....never beat Portland, Houston, SA, or Clippers

They already have cap space to sign Melo.  Kobe/Melo/Randle would be interesting.

But also, they could just package Randle with Nash and take back another max contract guy... like Rondo for example.

Unless they renounce Pau Gasol, I don't believe they have anywhere close to the cap space required to offer a max deal.

Which is why the Lakers basically made Melo a promise of an offer, rather than an offer.
