I see a lot statements coming straight from ill-informed opinions or just reading a stat line or reading a strength-weakness thing coming from the interenet.

I love college basketball. I watch as much of it as possible. I've been a big Smart watcher sine he was a freshman, I like watching him play.

I saw about 12-14 OKST games this past season.

First, Marcus Smart has a lot better shot than he is given credit for. when's he hot, its dirty. He can take over an entire game on both ends when he's feeling it.

Also, yesterday someone said OKST was a mediocre team... but I doubt they knew that OKST lost their starting C the 3rd game into the season and they had no legit backup at the spot so OKST was vulnerable down low with a 3-man Nash forced down low.

Another thing is many believe Marcus Smart cannot coexist with Do at the 2. That is false. Smart was actually recruited out of HS as a SG and also this past season played the 2 50% of the time for OKST as Markell Brown would run the point.

Smart would have been a Top 3 pick last season but decided to stay and get better, which he did. Just so happened he was in a deeper draft.

On James Young, I didn't watch a lot of Kentucky in the regular season, maybe 4-5 games and he was solid.

I DID watch UK in the tourney and saw Young takeoff and over some games and that is what he capable of.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So for those of you who are on here hating the picks for whatever reason, did you actually sit down and watch these kids play live? Or are you just listening to the scouting reports or jumping on the negative opinion...?

sorry to be a grammar/spelling Nazi but..."here"

anyhow, back to your statement

I started following Smart after he decided to stay for another year (I don't watch much college ball, unless a player is very hyped...ie Wiggins, Parker, etc)

From the few games I've seen Smart play, he is an ultra competitor. All the games I watched, he is the man, other teams look at him...he is a leader and also good at stuffing his stat sheet.

Last game of the season in the NCAA tourney, I see him almost getting a triple double...this kid CAN play...I actually said a few months ago, WAY before the NCAA tourney started that I'd pick Smart over Wiggins and that my draft choice is

Parker/Smart and Embiid

Young on the other hand, I have not watched much beside that finals game against UConn and he was very good in my opinion

actually that's a lie, I watched a few Kentucky games during the final 4 when the Harrison twins hit those big 3s at the end. But man, the National Championship game, Young and Randle were performing pretty well

Excited for summer league and the season to start

Whoops, brain fart on that one....

But yes I agree, Smart is the MAN when he's out on the court. He can do it all imo. Yes, his weakness is he can be a cold shooter but he attacks hard and knows how to get to the line as well. And when's he hot.... its over

I don't watch college ball... My buddy is a Gonzaga fan and he insists that the Zags completely "shut down" Smart.  He also wasn't a fan of Smart's demeanor.

I checked out the box score, though and Smart had like 23 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals in that game... I asked him how that constituted "shutting down" and he mentioned that Smart shot like 5-14 in the game with 6 turnovers.. and that nobody else on the team was capable of getting stats.  Gonzaga won the game.

I see a lot of upset people comparing Smart to Banks.

Last time I got upset we [traded for] a guard I hadn't watched much and compared him to Banks? Yeah, that was Rajon Rondo.

I love Marcus Smart. Plus, I've seen him a bit. Dude's a beast.

I spread my focus around all the top 20 prospects. I saw Kentucky play maybe 8-10 times. And OKST maybe 6 times.

Smart is the real deal. He is gonna be a player in the NBA. And yes he will play fine at the 1 and 2. There is nothing traditional about his game except max effort and hard defense. He will be strong enough to switch onto small forwards on defense like a Tony Allen. And then after that he will give you a little of everything. Rebounding. Passing. Streaky shooting. Strength, speed and determination to get to the free throw line.

Young is a little more raw, and i felt like we didn't get to see the best of him in a College. He can shoot and penetrate and has good size. That has value and is a great place to start as a teenager.

Assuming people who have a different point of view didn't ever watch Smart or Young is a mistake.

Yes. That game was ridiculous. There was a combined like 55+ fouls called.  The reffs wouldn't put the whistles away. I remember that game. Smart got a lot of his points from the line and definitely filled up the stat line.

OKST lost mainly because their best low post and inside scorer LeBryan Nash did nothing that game because he got into early foul trouble. Nash normally gives you 15-18 a game but he had 6 which is a big reason for OKST loss.

They had 3 main scorers: Smart, Brown and Nash and just a shooter Forte and that's it. Once Nash went out, Brown and Smart had to carry the team to keep them in it.

Well, many people who are down on Smart say "well I don't watch college basketball, but he's mediocre" or "he cant shoot"

Just throwing out common opinion.

If smart plays on the opponent's team he will be hated. The guy is a competitive maniac, a flopper, and will get in your face on defense. He will be as loved and hated as a Garnett, Wade, Ron Artest, Lance Stephenson type of player.

But to be clear, he is not a knucklehead though.

As for loosing the Gonzaga game, all i can say is that sometimes you loose despite your best efforts.

I think it's a fair question to ask though. If you have a different opinion of him and actually watched him then cool, but if a person is making the loudest fuss about him without even seeing him play then their opinion doesn't weigh as much.

I think majority of the people who are making the fuss just reads nbadraft.net or draftexpress, they're not bad, but it doesn't paint the whole picture

Exactly to both you.... If people watched Smart absolutely take over a game, they would have a different thought on him

I try not to read into young's stat's to much. I have watched all his march madness games though, He wasn't UK point of view on offensive, even so he still got his. I believe Danny saw his NBA ready ability over what he was known for in college.

Smart on the other hand, From what I seen so far, if his college game transitions well into the NBA, , we [dang] sure got lucky.

I saw Smart play live, he's an absolute monster

Unfortunately he was suspended this year when he came to Austin so I should have seen him again
