So yeah apparently the Cavs are seriously considering trading out of the number one slot. I think that's a mistake, but fits their "win now" mandate.

No deal is done, but it sounds like both Orlando/Philadelphia want to move up to get Jabari/Wiggins respectively.

Wait, so this means they're trying to trade the 1st for Orlando's 4th and 12th?  Or that they're offering around the 4th and 12th for established players, implying they have a deal in place for those picks?

EDIT:  Never mind, the link ninja edited in makes it clear.  It's the latter.  Interesting.  Should be an odd night.

Yeah sorry I put up the post and then saw his subsequent tweets. I thought the deal was done initially but its not so.

It's easy to criticize Ainge when you compare him to some ideal GM who never makes mistakes but when you measure him against the folks who actually run other teams, Danny looks pretty darn good.

Yup. If they decided on Embiid and are pretty sure they can get him at 4 its a great move. If they're really just trading the number one pick for a couple of veterans, blech.

I think Embiid is off the Cavs radar due to their desperation to win now, overall they want to trade that pick for an accomplished star.. Love would of been that guy but didnt want tot extend .. So unless they get that star player they will just draft who they like best at #1 Parker/Wiggins.

Doesn't really seem all that odd.  They are considering Orlando's offer and are trying to gauge the value of the picks to see if it is worth it to them.

That said would Boston and Cleveland consider - Sullinger and 6 for 4
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

From what you're describing, it sounds like they want to flip one or both of those picks instead.  Dunno why they couldn't do that directly with the #1 pick though, it seems like it could bring in more veteran talent than 4+12.

Wonder if Afflalo is part of the proposed deal, his name's been tossed around a lot the last couple weeks.  Maybe Orlando gets Waiters back too or something.  That would make more sense for Cleveland - get one quality vet in the first deal and try and bring in more with a second.

Cleveland is such a ridiculous franchise.  Draft the star player, idiots.

The only way this makes sense is if Lebron has secretly committed, but wants NBA-ready talent around him.

Wonder if Afflalo is part of the proposed deal,
Twitter initially had the 4 & 12 + Afflalo for the number one pick a while ago.

Not a bad idea.

I presume they will only trade one of the two picks. Probably the #12. It's hard to see them getting better value for a #4 and #12 (either separately or combined) than they could get for the #1 so I doubt they are looking to trade. I am guessing it's the #4 they plan on keeping because the drop-off from #1 to #12 is huge.

And that they can get the guy they want at #4 (probably Embiid then, maybe Vonleh/Randle) and are looking to move the #12 to pickup a quality starter to give their team better balance heading into next season.

It's a terrible idea.  Take the best player and be done with it.  They over think things which is why they drafted Waiters who is a terrible fit with Irving despite Drummond being available.  It's why they took a chubby guy with sleep apnea and asthma first overall last year.  They should take Wiggins or Parker and be glad of their fortune.

This.

They constantly try to outsmart everyone else but just make themselves look stupid in the end..
