cannot even call games fairly.
How can anyone say that Chalmers hook on Parker was not a flagarant foul?
You're absolutely right. As a big bball fan I hate to say it, but the NBA nowadays reminds me alot of the WWE.
It's more entertainment than it is a sport and you almost always know what the outcome of the game is going to be before the game even starts. Lord knows the officials will make sure of that.
In the meantime, the commentators will kiss Lebron's as* because he's the face of the NBA.
Watching the finals is like watching Wrestlemania.
This is actually a fantastic comparison. TP.
So you guys actually think the NBA is fixed and the outcomes are pre-determined? That just doesn't seem plausible to me.
Not fixed but heavily influenced.
that doesn't seem plausible either.
Neither of you guys have heard of a guy named Tim Donaghy? Since when is the plausibility of fixing an NBA game in question?
The NBA had been hyping Heat vs. Brooklyn all year and the Heat made quick work and mopped the floor with them. If the NBA was fixed wouldnt it be in their best interest to make that series go 6 or 7 games?? Or at least make the games closer??
I know it seems like theres a ton of evidence that the games are rigged, but theres also a ton of evidence that it isnt that we ignore.
Not saying the NBA isnt crooked, I just dont think they fix games. They favor players that they want to center their league around.
Again, you've heard of Tim Donaghy right? An employee of the NBA... Who was guilty of fixing NBA games...
So...
Not saying the entire NBA is fixed. I don't believe it for a second. But to say games are heavily influenced doesn't seem like a stretch to me.
Of course games are heavily influenced in the NBA. The league favors stars and stars' teams and that in turn influences games. Doesn't mean its fixed as in, "hey Popovich, I need your boys to take a dive midway through the 4th, got it?!!"
But when a team faces a player/team the league has anointed, the refs are gonna make it as much of an uphill climb as they can. As pearljammer and mgent point out, there is irrefutable proof that refs doing THEIR part in influencing games HAS happened. And if anyone really thinks that what happened with Timmy was an isolated incident and completely began and ended with him alone, I've got some ocean front property out here in Arizona for sale.
The league's agenda has been for Miami to win since Lebron joined them, obviously. The better team on a given night can still play above calls, and calls going one team's way doesn't always change who wins or not (even though it often does). So what is in the league's best interest doesn't always go down as planned. Tonight was an example of that. Miami losing to Dallas in '11 is another. That is not proof that games
being influenced doesn't happen though. If the Spurs were to win this series, it doesn't mean the Heat haven't been consistently getting away with murder on defense, constant flopping, and straight up dirty playing that gets ignored.
