To build a contender + trade rondo

This might not be a contender this year but easily make the playoffs.  Next year  it could possibly contend for a title I think.

to sac: rondo bass
To Boston: 8th pick, s/t Isaiah Thomas (not sure on his contract I would think something along the lines of 3yr/21 million, Ben mclemore, and Jason Thompson.

Then make a move for love.

To minny: Sullinger, 6th, bogans, Anthony, 2015 boston top 5 protected.
To boston: Love

At 8 I would draft stauskas scouts are serious about him turning into one of the top shooters in the league and his athleticism is underrated.


Then I would trade for Asik.

To hou: s/t Humphries and Bayless, send Johnson as well.
To bos: Asik.

They seriously need to strengthen there bench. Humphries and the 2015 clippers pick.

We would have a very nice bench  as well

Thomas, vet?, Pressey
Stauskas, Bradley, mclemore
Green, mclemore, Wallace
Love, KO, Thompson
Asik, KO, fav

While there will be some weakness defensively in the backcourt and love Asik will definatly help make up for it. Also Bradley and Wallace are a good couple defensive aces. I think if we resign love and Asik that team would be great in a year.

I think we don't need to do all that for asik. we have a exception which is why people on celticsblog mention his name so much. its late and I'm having a hard time sleeping /thinking but yea.

I could not help but notice the Simpson thing.   You should change it to Barney Gumble right now!

No way this team contends for a title. Stauskas is a unproven rookie.  Green is all over the place, good, bad and invisble.  It's a better team than we have today but winning a title I don't see it happening.  The HEAT would stomp this team.

I don't understand why you would trade Rondo if we are trading for Love.  Rondo is much better than Thomas and Stauskas will be a rookie.  We'd be better with Rondo and more likely to be able to retain Love.  If we retained the 17th pick after trading for Love, I'd be excited if we used a future pick along with the 17th to move up to grab Stauskas, but I'd like to see him coming off the bench behind Bradley.

I guess rondos age is one thing. Another is the risk of losing him. Lastly is the contract we will to ably have to give him. For all that rondo does his inability to hit outside shots has always taken away from the offense.  We can get Thomas locked in for 3 or 4 years  on cheaper money than rondo. This was only Thomas's third year and he average 20 and 6. He puts forth the effort on defense, and can hit shots from all over the floor.

Maybe next year... Love is a top 10 player in the league. Thomas is an up and comer soon to be top 6 7 point guard. Green could average 17 at a much more efficient rate buy having a much better team around him and no longer being the number 1 option. Stauskas can come in automatically and shoot 35+ percent from 3. 16pts a game aren't out of the question. Asik will be the defensive anchor. Our bench would probably be the best and deepest in the nba. Led by KO and Bradley who is a better fit for a super energy guy that can energize a game. Throw in mclemore Wallace and Thompson that's good looking.

Thomas 21pts 7asts 3 rebs 1.5 stl
Stauskas 16pts 3asts 4 rebs 1.0 stl
Green 18 pts 3 asts 4 rebs 1 stl 1 blk
Love 26 pts 12 rebs 4 asts
Asik 10 pts 12 rebs 1.5 blks

That's obviously top scenario for each player but if it did happen wow.

Really?   Green did not average 17 with Kevin Durant who is way better than Love.  That kind of blows a hole in it for me.  Thomas could be a top 6 or 7, I agree.

You post this like it is a stat, it is an extremely optimistic projection.   I doubt Stauskas produces those numbers if he did , he'd be in the running for rookie of the year.  I don't think Stauskas could beat out Bradley.   Do you really think he is going to let some rookie own him in practice.   I think he will lock him down and his confidence would go in the trash.

The stars would have to align perfectly for this to work.

The only reason you would even think about something like this is if Rondo pulled a Kevin Love and flatly stated that he wants out of Boston.  Then, like Minny, you'd be forced to looking into trading him (or at least seeing what you can get).

Luckily, though, Rondo has made no indications that he'd rather play elsewhere.  As a matter of fact, every report or quote I've read on the subject has Rajon saying he would prefer to stay in Boston.

This stars are more for what could be next year or the year after. This team could develop into something great.

You're right about rondo wanting to stay. I just like looking at things through different angles. I think you are setup better longer term with Thomas than are you with rondo. 4 years younger still developing his game, Has improved every single season consintly. I love Rondo but I think Thomas could change the whole dynamic of the team.

I highly disagree that we are better off with Isaiah Thomas than Rondo.  To each his own, I guess.

If Love comes here, and Danny builds a solid team around him and Rondo, there's no risk of losing either of them.

Love is a pretty loyal and down-to-earth guy. His goal is to have a team who can compete and eventually win and he can get that in Boston.

Rondo has said multiple times that he wants to retire as a Celtic and that he already earns star money.

Risk of losing him is only if Danny fails this summer and can't make any guarantees for the FA next summer. Then you trade him.

  When you were "looking at things through different angles" were you able to figure out why the Kings were supposedly willing to give us (at least) that pick and McLemore in order to swap Thomas for Rondo? Clearly they think Rondo's that much better than Thomas or they wouldn't make the offer. Clearly they also know Ainge thinks Rondo's that much better than Thomas or they wouldn't make that offer. Sactown wouldn't make a straight up trade of Thomas for Rondo if their assessment of the players was remotely close to yours. Maybe you're looking at things through the wrong angle this time, especially if you think that team will contend for a title in a year or two.

Sac wants a passing PG, and a better defender ( bigger ).  As far as Stauskas goes, I think if you keep Rondo and trade down, you could pick up Hairston and Levine... Both of which are much bigger and athletic scorers. IMO one or both will play bigger roles than stauskas ever will.
