no way Rondo stays beyond next season if we stack the roster with 18 - 20 year olds. I don't believe it's his dream to mentor a bunch of young kids.

If no Love, nor someone comparable, then Rondo is traded to prevent him from walking away for no return.

Take it to the bank

Agreed. Don't think Ainge, or Rondo, wants any part of pairing him with a kiddie corps that's going to lose heavily during Rondo's prime.

The people who loathe Love and love Rondo are in a little bit of a bind here - don't think they can have their cake and eat it, too.

How do the folks who love Love and loathe Rondo feel?

Because, let's be honest, you seem to fit that category.

We're having a basketball discussion here. I don't have time for the Rondophiles who want to get personal - against board rules.

So when someone makes the exact same comment you do with the names reversed you think it's suddenly personal? You then call him a Rondophile in the same sentence where you hide behind the "don't get personal, it's against board rules" statement? Do you even read what you're writing?
TP Tim for pointing out the obvious.  just his usual tactics.

More likely we trade rondo.  It's an easier thing to accomplish.  Rondo doesn't really fit with the youth movement. We are still a few years away from being competitive and we are likely taking a 19 year old in the draft.  I could see boston trading rondo for more youth. Too much competition for Kevin love and we aren't in control of that situation.

I doubt either happens though
40% chance we trade Rondo
10% chance we trade for Love

I mean, the timberwolves could just hang onto love for another year and there are several teams that could outbid us.  People here talk like its in the bag already.

That's nothing, some people here have been talking like trading Rondo's in the bag for a number of years.
The thing with Love is that the Timberwolves are still publicly saying they aren't trading him.  Conventional wisdom says otherwise, though... so at most we're talking a 60% chance they trade him.   Then, there's about 28 teams in the league other than Boston that would probably like to have Kevin Love.  Probably a dozen or so who will make offers.  Some we've heard about... some we haven't.  Plenty of teams who could theoretically outbid us.  If we're being generous ,we'd say that Boston is one of the 5 most likely destinations.  So at most a 60% chance they move him... and then at most there's a 20% chance we're the team they trade him to.    It's pretty unlikely it happens.

On the flip side, there's been a few years where trading Rondo seemed like a possibility.  None more likely than this past trade deadline and arguably this offseason.  Just like the Wolves situation, they Celtics are publicly saying they aren't moving Rondo... but conventional wisdom says otherwise.  Ainge will indeed get offers.  Ainge will most certainly consider those offers.   Especially if Love doesn't come to Boston, there's a distinct possibility that Boston parts with Rondo.  It's more a matter of whether or not Ainge thinks Rondo will resign... and whether or not Rondo fits into the big picture long-range plans of this organization.   I still say it's unlikely... probably a 40% chance it happens.  But it's more likely than Boston getting Kevin Love.  We're likely taking a 19 year old in the draft... who will fit in nicely with the youth already on this squad.  Rondo is a veteran former all-star... not sure he makes sense on a struggling rebuilding squad.

Whether or not we trade Rondo is in the hands of Danny Ainge... and whether or not he pulls the trigger on one of the offers he receives.    Whether or not we trade for Love depends on if the Wolves actually go through with trading him... and if our bid beats the other 28 teams that probably want him... and if Ainge actually wants to give up that much to get him.

If the Love deal falls through, I would try to move Rajon to Sac for the #8 and Ben McLemore, Derrick Williams and the corpse of Jason Terry(who I would cut immediately). Then after drafting Gordon at 6, take Smart with the 8. Smart, AB, Gordon, Sully and/or KO as my core guys moving forward. A young group that would have a lot of growing up to do but I could definitely live with that.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...
