I personally prefer to go the win now route and make a competitive offer for Kevin Love. I think trading for an established superstar who has the potential to be a top five/MVP-type goes further in our quest to build a (relatively) young title contender than selecting prospects who carry with them the risk of bust/failure.

But there is a world in which the Celtics don't have Love before the 2014 draft, during the draft, after the draft, after the 2015 trade deadline, and after the 2015 offseason. Is this devastating to Boston's chances of creating that lengthy title window? Not necessarily.

Here is one of many fantasy blueprints available to the asset-loaded C's this summer:

Keep the 6th pick and select Aaron Gordon.

Draft night deal: Trade Rajon Rondo to the Orlando Magic for Jameer Nelson, Nikola Vucevic, 2014 ORL #12, 2016 ORL 1st rounder. (http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kah8vp3)

Select Zach LaVine with the 12th pick.

Select Elfrid Payton with the 17th pick.

Offseason shakeup: Trade Keith Bogans, Joel Anthony, Jared Sullinger, and 2015 LAC 1st rounder to the Houston Rockets for Chandler Parsons (sign & trade, 4 years/$40 million). (Deal works financially... roughly $10 million in and $10 million out. Couldn't display in trade machine for obvious reasons.)

Re-sign Avery Bradley (3 years/$14 million), Kris Humphries (2 years/$14 million). Cut Babb.

Jameer Nelson/Elfrid Payton/Phil Pressey
Avery Bradley/Zach LaVine/Chris Johnson
Chandler Parsons/Jeff Green/Gerald Wallace
Aaron Gordon/Kelly Olynyk/Brandon Bass
Nikola Vucevic/Kris Humphries/Vitor Faverani

Misc. notes: I believe Aaron Gordon is going to be a stud: seems to have improved his shot, worked on a mid-range/high-post game, terrific motor, unique ball-handling/defensive versatility skillset... Cs can afford to take a risk on LaVine at #12 with their array of picks... Payton has an intriguing frame and does three things well that typically translate to the NBA: perimeter D, forcing turnovers, rebounding (for position)... Magic have a sea of assets and are guard-happy; Rondo/Exum/Oladipo would make management very happy. They lose two extremely valuable chips but it's a star-driven league and Rondo is far and away their best chance at putting a decent squad out on the floor in 2015. They have the cap space to add a third piece to what would be an existing Rondo/Exum duo, potentially a star-level player, from the 2015 free agent class. They have an intelligent coach/FO and a warm-weather climate as well, and may feel they can re-sign Rondo... Houston can't risk not getting Carmelo and then losing Parsons in 2015. This deal provides them cap space and a pick to aid them in a potential Melo acquisition, as well as a good young forward in Sully and a friendly contract in Joel Anthony... Green/Bass would seemingly remain on the block for the 2014-15 season...

Whoah, imo that scenario don't make us better, we get a crapload of money tied to three SF's, in which around 19 mils for two bench guys...

I don't like the trade either but it is a good try.

No way does Houston do that deal.
