You are probably the only one. If Rondo isn't playing well then who is? Kyrie and Chris Paul? Puh lease.
Chris Paul is putting up 19 and 10 on a team that already has 55 wins. Chopped liver, I'm telling you.

According to Brad Stevens:

Quote
"That’s ultimately going to be his decision, based on how he feels on that day. He hasn’t played a back-to-back yet, so that would be a new thing. Is there a positive or negative to that? I don't know. But that will be his call, along with [team trainer] Ed Lacerte."

I wouldn't be surprised if the arrangement is that Rondo tells Lacerte how he feels and it is the trainer's decision on whether or not to clear Rondo for action.

This is how the Celtics have traditionally handled nagging injuries. Its up to Lacerte what he sees and the player says if they're a go or not.

Mike Gorman would probably breathe a sigh of relief.

Interesting break-down on Rondo's offense & defense.

Here are Rondo's 5 most-used 5-man units and their defensive ratings (point per possession).

Unit                                 min     ORtg  DRtg
RR+Bayless+Green+Bass+Humphries      105m     .98  1.08
RR+Wallace+Green+Bass+Sullinger       67m    1.00  1.07
RR+Bradley+Green+Humphries+Sullinger  50m     .90   .85
RR+Bradley+Green+Bass+Sullinger       49m    1.07   .95
RR+Bayless+Green+Bass+Sullinger       37m     .92  1.26

I suspect that the problem on defense isn't Rondo.  Or Bradley.  Or Green, Hump, Bass or Sully.

Haha.  You could spin it as Bradley being a huge plus, though, since the Wallace lineup isn't really any better than the top Bayless lineup.

I didn't mention Wallace in my list of exclusions for a reason.   I consider he AND Bayless to be the defensive problem in those lineups.

Wallace is a decent defender at the SF position this year, but he has sucked at the SG spot.  Opposing SG's have rated a 16.9 PER and shot a blistering 53.2% eFG against him.

Rondo and Bradley have a prior history in their oft-interrupted-playing-together of stellar, shut-down defense.  And the numbers up their suggest they still 'have it'.

Rondo, Bradley & Green all have experience playing team defense together from prior seasons.   I suspect they simply know how to work well together.  Throw someone else into that mix and it is not surprising that it might not click.

Rondo is going to make a super assistant coach one day.

I hope it will be with the C's

I've been watching all of the games lately, and I just see a guy who is killing the team. Is he too good to give effort on defense? He puts up decent stats because he dominates the ball but I'd bet 85% of his assists are coming on outside jump shots.

He can't get to the hoop much anymore (which I'm hoping is part of the recovery process), the shot is not falling and he isn't pushing the tempo. So what's left? Rondo dribbling for 15 seconds dancing around waiting for a big man to get open for a jumper.

I was watching him last night thinking how bad he looked then low and behold I looked up and he had out up a triple double... HA! Stats don't tell the story with this guy. He is NOT playing well, he's not defensively responsible and the offense looks AWFUL right now.

Chris Paul has been playing well...
The guy has Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and JJ Redick on his team with a bench that has Jared Dudley, Matt Barnes, Big Baby, and Darren Collison. And they're all being coached by the legendary Doc Rivers.  But they can't manage better than a 3 seed?

Last year they didn't really have to worry about the Thunder. So did they go to the finals? No. The Spurs did. Old man Tony Parker, and centenarians Tim Duncan and Ginobli.

CP3 has achieved less with more than anyone in this league.

Maybe the bigger fact here is that stats don't totally tell the story. He still gets his numbers... but I've seen him play much better when he's not as "stat driven"

CP3 is still the best pg hands down. I love Rondo and I think he's playing ok, but that's fine given that this season is meant to be tossed for a high lottery pick. I see Rondo is slowly gaining his explosiveness back when he drives to the rim, still has his court vision which is good, still can rebound very very well for a pg. As far as controlling the tempo of the game and can dish AND score very well, CP3 by far is the best int he game today.

I'm not making excuses for Rondo, but maybe we'll see a different Rondo next season. I only care about players who may or may not return next year playing for their contract, ie Bradley.

Offense looks so nice with Rondo ball-stopping every trip down. Got a little transition going, a lot of ball movement... Free flowing.

What is Rondo's +/- this year? Where do I find that?

I think he is in on the tank. When I rewatched the 4th quarter meltdown to the Hawks, it was obvious. Rondo never gets trapped and loses the ball. And that open three by Korver, yep that was Rondo's man. He was at the opposite block guarding noone.  Rondo is one of the brightest kids in the league. He'd never get that lost in transitional defense.
