First of all this is a minor story.

The team has a policy....Got it? A player needs permission from the boss to skip a game, on the bench or not. The player is supposed to attend or get permission. Basic stuff. Reported and now confirmed by Stevens, the player didn't get permission. "No call no show."

Player gets yelled at. Told to do 25 push ups (on one hand...this kid is strong) All done party over.

Now just for the drama of it all? If Garnett was still on the team, do you think this player would have pulled a "No call no show"?

Dreams of exposed molars and talcum powder everywhere...

I have my opinion. Yours?

Yay. Another hate on Rondo thread. Never can get enough of these.

Don't care that this was on the first page; are you for real? I don't have anything against Rondo, but how is this a "hate on Rondo" thread?

It's more like you work on commission and there are 29 other companies that do what you do. You make far and away the most money for your boss (and at your position you made more money than anyone on the team since the 1950s or so) and it's reasonably known you're underpaid and have a contract renew coming up in a year.  You were not expected to make any sales on Friday because it's a holiday so you don't bother to show up at the office to do those stupid little things like straighten your pencil.

A smart boss would ask you how your day off was.

A stupid boss lets it be known he's miffed.

Even Bill Belichik let guys have days off. They weren't even injured. No way on Earth he treats a banged up Brady like this when he wasn't expected to play. No way.

Just curious, but have you ever been a manager at your job, before? I mean, if you have and that's how you run your department, that's fine I suppose. Otherwise, your post just comes off as idealistic.

See, I'm sure MOST bosses aren't against letting their employees have the day off here and there, especially when they've had a good few weeks. However, I'm also sure MOST bosses don't like their employees taking a day off unannounced. FWIW to say, my company has an official policy against that; as in, it officially counts against you. Even during the snow days, we had to use time off if we weren't coming in; thankfully being 5 minutes away I was able to come in and not have to waste my time off.....and sometimes we actually got to go home early.  :)

Anyways, I digressed. Whatever happened with Rondo, I'm not so much bothered about the event but the fact it was leaked. Does that mean Rondo messed up bad? Who knows. Personally, if Rondo did request to not have to go to the game but was denied, eh, make plans after. I imagine Rondo not having to play meant he wouldn't have to be in front of a mic post-game for too long, if at all. Of course this assumes he'd even be denied if he really did request.

If he just didn't request anything and was supposed to, well hmm, why? Did he infact just "forget"?

Either way, I'm not gonna pretend that this signaled the end of the world, no one's perfect if this was infact just a communication breakdown, happens at my job too, shocker. But I will ask Rondo to keep it real; if he really did just stand up the team, then he has to know better. If it was just a "well I told him but not him", then he has to know who to ask.

I'm hearing people say Doc didn't make this out to be a big deal, but without all the facts, I can't be sure what that really means. So KG could just wake up, take a game off, and not tell Doc beforehand? I need that clarified as opposed to simply implied. Cause I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little confirmation bias just to have Rondo's back on this.

If my post comes off as idealistic it might be because Rondo has been an ideal employee. He had a below market deal for a very long time and may actually resign with this team. Most superstars aren't always that interested in staying with losing teams.

The guy has outperformed his contract in a big way.  I want him to stay.  He has paid his dues by a lot.  He was with his family, not clubbing with guns.  This is the equivalent of a good employee going home 10 minutes early on a Friday afternoon.

And it should continued to be talked about if only for the fact that Celtics president Danny Ainge chose to talk about it in a published report on Tuesday, and Celtics coach Brad Stevens didn’t exactly dismiss the idea that there was some sort of real disagreement between coach and player before Wednesday night’s game.

What Ainge's motivations were behind this are beyond me.  I trust that we'll get some additional insight from him when he's on the radio this morning.

I said this 2 days ago. Now it's on the front of this site...now? It was clear Danny and Brad blew this in house issue to the outside. Brad's non support of Rondo irks me a lot. He is losing his star. [edited]

You guys are watching a train wreck in slow mo and I cannot fathom Danny's position. It makes no sense to make Rondo look like a loose cannon if you wanna get back a good deal in a trade.

This escapade I mentioned days ago....anyone seeing it yet? The Boston media took a couple days but this is not a non story like some said. It's a snowball rolling down hill and I have lost a bit of respect for Brad in this. He needs the players trust. Danny makes the team and Brad coaches it. Danny doesn't need Brad as a mouthpiece. Who wants to play for a guy like that?

No comment woulda been better or a flat out lie in defense of your best player woulda been ideal.

Or perhaps Ainge and Stevens would like a little maturity from their captain.

The ongoing fusillade of excuses you guys make for Rondo's petulant behavior never, ever will cease to amaze me. The guy doesn't need a public relations man; you guys are spinning things for him quite nicely. And for free, too.

The birthday party was more important than his team, his coach and his teammates. Clearly. We're all getting a first-hand look at the seeds of a losing culture being planted.

What, exactly, is the story? “It’s my business,” he followed. “It’s not yours.”

Rondo will do just dandy being the best player on the team... except that he's not handling that whole media attention thing very well.

I guess it depends on what you mean by handling the media attention well.

I don't think this is really affecting him in any negative way.  But he is isn't making himself look any better.

Rondo is a prickly guy, he always has been, and always will be.  I don't think he is ever going to be a team spokesman.  Honestly, I just don't think he is comfortable dealing with the media.

Either way, I hope he is not the "best player on a team" for long.  And I don't expect it to be the case.  Either he will go to a team with another great player, or Danny will bring in another great player.

I do think Rondo can be a very good on-court leader though.

Could not care less about this. This is the type of non basketball issue that radio talk show hosts like to talk about because it allows them to have an opinion about something basketball related.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Great player.   I'm not sure that he's a great captain, though.

Ainge and Stevens care, apparently. I guess they're just preparing for their upcoming careers as radio hosts.

hahah...this made me laugh!  Clearly Ainge and Stevens are bothered by this.  Not sure how anyone can defend Rondo on this one...

Great player.   I'm not sure that he's a great captain, though.
Honestly neither was Pierce when he was first thrust into the role on a similar type of team.

The question is how does Rondo grow to deal with it all.

This is such a nonstory. I can't believe how much attention it's getting.

Enough already.
