I caught that...interesting.

Can't help but wonder if there's some sort of disconnect right now between Rondo and Danny Ainge.

So you don't think skipping a game without permission is not a big deal? especially when he is the captain?

He should have got permission, but I can't blame the dude for wanting to go to a B-day party with family and friends on a night when he wasn't going to play.

We have heard nothing but positive things about Rondos leadership post Big Three era, and I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

(lol Rondo getting the benefit of the doubt around here, yeah right)

Could be he's not happy about the back to back limitation.

Who knows though, this one incident is pretty minor but like the water bottle incident it'll get cited ad naseum.

Eh, it was one game that he wasn't scheduled to play in anyway. Maybe there was some confusion on his part that he needed permission even though he wasn't slated to play. Much ado about nothing. If this was an ongoing occurrence, I'd have some concerns but it sounds like he stayed in LA because he had family in for his birthday. He's been on the bench most of the season when he wasn't playing, I'm sure Danny will handle appropriately.

I guess I'll fall on the side of those fans criticizing Rondo:  when you're a team captain, you need to show more maturity and leadership.  I don't really care what his motivations were; if he didn't have permission to skip a game, then he should have been there.

I remember that at some point Stevens said about Rondo that "the minute restriction is off". When Rondo was asked about this, he pretty much said "That's not really true, I won't be playing 40 minutes a game". So yeah, there is some disconnect there for sure, but I'm not certain it's in the direction you're suggesting.

Doc always allowed PP and KG to do this if not playing. Right or wrong it may be time to completely change any holdovers from the Doc culture.

You can frame it either way if you'd really like.

Could be the minute restriction is off so he can play full minutes, but Stevens has told Rondo he's not playing 40 even if he wants too. Or it could be that Rondo is refusing to play heavy minutes or in back to backs on his own like you seem to be suggesting.
