Every million spent on a role player, puts the celtics a million dollars away from having the room to sign a max star player or impact defensive big during the next 3 years.
I'd go out on a limb and say that we're not going to sign a max star player or an impact defensive big via free agency over the next three years, Bradley or no Bradley.

It is also about having the space to resign or trade for one.  The majority of trades that just happened looked to be mainly about avoiding being close to the luxury tax.

Avery doesn't stand out on bad or mediocre teams.  He can be an elite defender and an efficient scorer, but he is more of a complementary piece on a good team than anything else.  Few would know who he is if he had spent his NBA career in Sacramento or Cleveland much less with the Wizards and such.

I like him, but he is nothing more than a back up guard in this league.
We all think we know more than we really do....

Id give Bradley a Jeff Green type 7-8 million for one year offer. Make him prove he can stay healthy for a year and earn a longer deal, or else he can walk. That way if he doesn't pan out he's still off the books in a year or can be easily traded

If you sign him to a one-year deal, he can veto any trade.

Instead of trying to decrease the total contract value in negotiations, I would go for a strategy of trying to reduce the percentage of the contract that is guaranteed.

Yup, that luxury tax is almost being treated like a hard cap. Teams are willing to go over only here and there, and even then those teams dont want to become repeaters year after year. So many teams want to avoid the giant tax penalties and  reap the benefits of Brooklyn's crazy spending.

No.

The economical reality of the new NBA is going to squeeze players like him.

The only team I can see overpaying for Bradley (6-7 mill) next year would be Philly. The only reason being is that they have to maintain a min salary and they're almost completely built on rookie deals now with the exception of Young. He'd
be a great complimentary player for their young team and they'd still have plenty of cap space in 15/16. They could be one of the scariest teams in the league by then if their young core works out.

MCW
Bradley
Parker/Wiggins
Moultrie
Noel

Plus most likely a lotto pick from NO this year, Wroten, and whatever draft picks they get next year. They very well could upgrade the SG and PF spots with draft picks moving AB and/or Moultrie to the bench, plus they'll have a ton of cap space to sign free agents and they have a stockpile of picks to move for trades where they can take back a ton of salary.

They've taken a lot of heat for gutting their roster for essentially nothing but 2nd rnd picks, but they're set up to be real contenders in a couple years if they get a top 3 pick and Noel pans out. That's a ton of talent on rookie deals with assets and cap flexibility to bring in veteran all stars.

I thought OKC was going to go after him at the deadline (maybe sending the C's Lamb and a pick). A backcourt of Westbrook and AB would be a serious force on both ends of the court.

The older I get the more and more I realize the value of consistency…or is that the more I watch Jeff Green….anyway, AB is too injury prone and because of it too inconsistent for the Celts to build with…I hope we can get some compensation for him moving on but I really don't want to pay him the money he might demand.

(On a side note his defensive highlight clips on youtube are amazing and if somehow he could maintain that effort and skill through a season he would be an amazing player.

I'd welcome him back at the right price as I love the defensive combo of Bradley and rondo BUT he has proven to be injury prone inconsistent and the master of the long two.  We need a sg 6'5" at least with true three point range.  Spread the floor to allow open lanes for green rondo etc.
IMO Bradley is a very good backup with a great man on defense.
Still has much to prove for more $

Well said. TP !

Hope we haven't missed boat on getting the best return for him.

I've felt all year Bradley was gone because of all his shots which is totally out of character.

I must say his shooting is a million times better than I thought it could be 2 yes ago.
