Y'all are talking crazy. How was that not a defensive foul ? Lowry rises up shooting a fade away jumper. The contact was all upper body before any lower body contact. The leg kick isn't there for me. He didn't move his legs mid flight trying to get contact. That looks like a normal fade away jumper you see on a nightly basis. What did Lowry do to be ejected ? The nba officiating is a joke. These refs act like police sometimes absolutely crazy. They ruin games and the overall product. Robbed Lowry of a great play then threw him out of the game... Silver needs to handle this. Fans should be able to vote out certain refs that would be fun. But seriously the nba officiating is probably the worst in all of sports

Should have been a no call.

There was some leg extension there, but IMO it's not intentional or Lowry would have Reggie Miller'd all the way.

And I agree, if refs call this on Lowry, they should call the same for Harden, Wade and (i hate to say this) Steph Curry.

It was a good call.

The bad calls is when they let the offensive player get away with the kick.

Yeah, to me the offensive foul is fine.  Regardless of who got away with it in the past that's very explicitly supposed to be a foul now.

The immediate ejection for just running away is much worse to me.  Though with Lowry's rep that might've just been a straw that broke the camel's back situation (it sounds like he already had a tech at least).

I know right.  It was ok when Lebron did it and run around the court like a spoiled brat.

I have a question, why was that rule made?  I know they put it in place because Reggie Miller but what is the purpose because I can't figure out anything wrong with just vertically jumping with one leg sticking out.

It's an attempt to initiate contact to dupe the refs into a call, but it also impairs the defender's ability to contest the shot, and either hitting or avoiding the leg can cause the defender to make additional contact that would normally be a foul.

Offensive players generally aren't supposed to be able to initiate contact to make more space or create fouls that wouldn't have happened without it.

The referees were trashing Toronto for the entire game. One of the most one-sided officiating I've seen this year so far.

Oh...ok.  Thanks for clearing that up

Yeah I dont understand how anyone can say the offensive foul was a good call in this play. He really doesnt kick his leg out at all. His leg gets pulled out further from his fade away because the defender runs into it and pulls it with him.

Still I give that a no call because the defense doesnt really affect the shot so much. However to call that offensive? Thats completely ludicrous.

Where was the leg kick by Lowry on that? I am so confused on that. It looked like he was just taking his jumpshot and if anything the foul was on the defender. If that was Ray Allen instead of Kyle Lowry it is a four point play set up for sure. This is what is precisely what is wrong with this league and why so many fans turn to other sports this time of year.

Great description but if you watch the play Lowry was already in his shooting form before the defender was close and then the kings player simply ran into him. The NBA should be giving out fines to referees for their incompetence. If players coaches and even gm's cab receive them just for words coming out of their mouth nvm how they act on the court (excluding the gym obviously). The refs are treated as infallible variables in the game and that's not right to me. The way the league praises the refs and doesn't ever hold them accountable other than getting an apology is ludicrous. And stern wondered why there's conspiracy theories out there. I love the fact I got to use the past tense there :)

I had the clip muted so I missed the ejection.  That's looks bad.

I agree with wdleehi, they should call this stuff more often.

The problem is that the league allows flopping and offensive players creating contact so often, that this just looks like arbitrarily and selectively enforcing a rule.

there should've been no call at all. there's just not enough there to warrant anything in either direction.

Why is running away a T? Do the refs want them to stand there, roll their eyes, chuck a hissy fit, abuse them, get in their faces? How is moving away from the situation a bad thing for the refs, player, game?

yeah, they expect the players to eat crap and like it.

honestly the fact that most of us can probably name 2 or 3 NBA officials off the top of our head is just wrong. I shouldn't know who these people are.

So how does this work when Pierce, Wade, and numerous others wait for someone to jump on a fake then they jump right into them to draw the foul?  I'm assuming Dirk gets away with the knee because it's a fadeaway?

Bad call, yes, worst call of the year? Probably not, I've seen Lebron flops that are WAY worse than this.

I would say no call, the defender was really close to hitting Lowery, but Lowery kicked out just enough to create that contact. It was no Reggie Millar kick out and it's hard to say if the kick out was to make contact or to keep balance since he was kicking out in front of him.

The kick outs that are out in front are hard to call because a lot of players just kick out naturally. Its the kicking out to the side the gets me.
