Thought I'd throw this out there as a conversation topic after some side discussions in other threads.

We're a little over halfway through the season and the trade deadline is coming up shortly as well as the draft in 5 months.

Who do you think will still be with the team going into next season?

Personally, I think the only players that will still be with the team going into next season are
Rondo
Sully
KO
Wallace
Chris Johnson
Pressey
Vitor

My reasoning:
I really think Danny trades Green and Bass before next season.  Bass goes into the last year of his deal next season so he becomes more attractive to another team.  Green has some appeal.  I don't see a great return for either of them but Danny will get something for them even if it's mostly cap relief going forward.

I think he lets Hump and Bogans expire (not picking up Bogans option) or trades them.
Hump has played well for another deal but not for what the C's should pay him (and he'd hold up development of Sully and KO)  and he'll definitely get a contender's attention for next year which I would think would be more appealing to him than another year of rebuilding.

I think AB gets overpaid in free agency by someone and Danny ends up with either a SG or SF out of the draft so it's not a loss.  Johnson ends up earning the back up spot with his play this year.

Bayless, while playing serviceable ball, is more expensive than Pressey and hasn't shown to be a much better option.  cost savings plays out here.

That's only 7 players I think return.  rest of the roster fills out with draft picks and mostly whoever Danny picks up in trades.  Probably pick up a FA or two for minimal money to fill out the roster and get to the salary minimum.

Just my thoughts -- anyone see it differently?

Rondo
Sully
KO

Maybe:
Pressey

Further fetched maybe:
Green

Sullinger
Olynyk
Faverani
Pressey
Wallace
Bradley (re-signed at just above the MLE)
Draft pick #1
Draft pick #2

I expect Bass to be traded and for Bayless and Humphries to expire.

I think there's a pretty good chance Green gets traded around the deadline along with Bass, and then Rondo gets shopped this summer.  I feel like Rondo's a 50/50 proposition at the moment, though.

Rondo
Sully
Bass
KO
Wallace (because we can't move him)
FAv

I don't see bayless or pressy coming back, bayless to a contender, pressey to the d_league to learn how to shoot

I see Green being traded , hopefully for Asik

Bradley is not a starting SG IMO,great as an energy guy off the bench or as a starter next to a bigger PG or a SG you can run the offense through. I wouldnkt sign him to anything mor than a Bass type contract around 6mil.

I say the c's trade Bradley and a pick for Gordon Hayward
My prediction

PG: Rondo/
Sg :  Hayward/ Johnson
SF: Parker/ Wallace
PF: Sully / Bass
C: Asik / nets or hawks pick

6'10" post guys just aren't key pieces anymore and he's about to clog up a lot of the cap, but at the same time he could bring back the best asset in return after Rondo and our 2014 #1.  So yeah, I think Sully is gone

for sure imo
rondo, ko (as he has room to improve, ainge might hold on to him), fav, wallace (can't be traded unless we give up an asset which i don't see ainge doing)

to me everyone else is up for grabs, if ainge gets a draft pick and its a top quality sf look for green to be moved, insert bradley, sully, bass, hump into that sentence

might slip through as they aren't "important" enough
pressey and chris johnson

i'd like to see hump back at a more team friendly price as combo pf/c off bench, would like sully back as well
i think ainge is going to be moving players, picks you name it

Sully
AB
KO
Vitor
Pressey
CJohnson

Only the young guys who are capable of contributing! Rondo,Green,Bayless, and Hump aren't old, but a few years too old to match up with a team that might not compete for a few years.

thanks for the feedback -- shows I'm not way off base in my reasoning

I wouldn't totally exlcude Hump and Bayless re-signing if we can get them on reasonable deals.  It wouldn't really hurt our cap situation if we do, and if we get Bass and Green off the books.  They are really solid backups, and they both have said recently they would like to remain here.

I think Ainge might try to package Green and Wallace together maybe for mostly dead weight but players on 2 years contracts instead of 3.  I would throw in a couple second rounders to do this, but would be heisitant to throw in a 1st rounder unless if it's a protected pick.  If that fails then maybe just Green by himself is sent away.

I think we could trade Bass on his own or with Bogan's contract for other assets too.

I like Bradley but having a hard time deciding if we should lock him up, or trade him soon.

If we can clear enough room to use that 10 mil trade exemption this summer that would be ideal.

I think Sully, KO, and Rondo will all be here unless if it's part of a bigger deal which I doubt will happen.  Just thought of Coltern Iverson.  I wonder how he is playing.  He could be here maybe, Vitor too if he works on his body.

Forgot about Joel Anthony.   He is signed for next year so I guess he will be back as well.

  • It's what I do! It's who I am!
Rondo, Bradley, Sully, KO, Wallace.

And Bradley is up in the air.
