Right now, we're shopping for potential leading men, not surefire rotation players. In our position, I would prefer that we avoid the proven college players with obviously low ceilings. These are the players who are basketball geniuses and have an elite skill but don't have NBA size or athleticism and don't project to have a complete game. Here I'm thinking of Kyle Anderson, who will get eaten alive, Doug McDermott, who will not be able to get open or play defense, and Dario Saric, who can't shoot.
Before this season, I wanted no part of Joel Embiid. Now that he has proven that he knows how to play basketball, I don't see why anyone would consider passing on him.
I want Rondo to lead this new team, and I think draft evaluators have been getting WAY too excited about point guard prospects for whatever reason ever since Rubio and Wall. I have no interest in Marcus Smart. Vonleh or Exum might make [dang] good shooting/combo guards, so I'm still pretty excited about them.
