Some love for Pressey too!

In the last 10 games Phil has 5 TOs against 34 assists in a little over 12 min per game.

That would make 6,8 ASS/TO.

I'd love to be as proficient at stats as 5M and others here to actually test what I see in a more advanced way. My eye test tells me our offence clicks when he is on court. Same eye test likes his man to man D too.

Now, I am not saying he is the top of the world. But some guys in almost every game thread (on the Blog, not in the Forum) act like he does not belong on a basketball court. I say, Phil Pressey as a back-up PG is the least problem this ball club has.

Until he started actually making some shots, I was one of those who called for him to go to the D-League, just so he could get his shooting going. But right now I agree. He is what you would want from a back-up pg: Lots of energy on defense and close to a guarantee that the second unit at least will get some open shots in stead of turning the ball over at the top of the key. And he might have some upside, too.

if he can consistently make jump shots, especially 3 pointers he might have an nba career. he is a really talented and intelligent passer.

the problem is his height. watch a number of his match ups. many guards simply are much taller, which creates real post up problems as well as guarding their shots.

and when he has to switch on defense and pick up a forward, geez, he looks like a little kid out there in terms of height.

not so say pressey cant be in the nba. but he needs to get a good jump shot to make it i think.

Im pretty excited to see how this back-court rotation works through the end of the year! Pressey seems like an up and coming 10 to 15 mins a night backup pg in this league.  As others pointed out, his Asst/TO has been real impressive, as is his man-defense depending on who he is matched against.

Bayless seems like more of a heat-check combo-guard, whose value is going to be limited to those nights when his shot is falling. But he too has a good handle.

AB needs to improve his finishing, and bring up his 3PT % a bit, but he is an elite wing defender and I am a firm believer that he is a keeper now that he has shown consistency and improvement in his shooting. A third guard on a good team.

I do wonder about their capacity to defensively handle some of the better,and longer, guards - Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler, Joe Johnson, Tyreke Evans,  those running 6'5" and up - as Bayless, list ed at 6'3", is the largest of our four (Rondo, Bayless, AB and Pressey)

Both this problem and the offensive limitations of both Pressey and Bayless would be easier to address if there were more consistency from the 3 spot. But, that's another story...

I like what I've seen from Pressey, but he's going to have to develop a credible outside shot in order to stick around as a backup in this league.

And he needs to add some muscle. Pressey is too weak physically and continues to be pushed around like a rag-doll defensively.

Jameer Nelson from tonight's game is a great example of a small PG who built himself up physically so he could withstand the bullying of larger more physically imposing opposing players. JJ Barea did as well. Both guys still get in trouble now and again but they put the work in in weight room to limit how much of a weakness it is for them. Pressey needs to the same.

just an update. 1-7 tonight for our junior star.

for the season he is shooting 23% i believe. wow, when you drop below the rubio line, you know you're bad.  :-[
