This guy should NEVER be a Celtic.     never ever.

The first time he untied Marion's shoe was cute and a bit funny.........but anybody stupid enough to do it again and Waste 50 ,000 dollars  is just plain stupid

I wish ....the NBA would collect this money from these morons and give it to hungry families and needy children around the world

Normally, I would consider a fine like this excessive for something playful like this... while harmful moves or really crappy personal choices off the court are fined less.

But with JR Smith, this guy just has absolute no respect for rules or authority.  Fine his butt off if he is just going to continue blatantly disrespecting almost every league policy or request like that.

It's not about the untying of the shoe -- note my first paragraph where I would normally "consider a fine like this excessive for something playful like this"

It's about the fact that this is a profession and there are rules to be followed.  JR Smith has continually broken them over his entire career and this is an example of when he does something he finds playful, the league asks him to stop, and he does it again less basically the very next opportunity he gets.

Its like if your child had been exhibiting a mild attitude/behavior problem recently and you asked him to stop doing something and he did it again right in your face.  You know if you don't come down hard that the kid is going to continue to just test every boundary he can with you.  Regardless of whatever silly thing it was.

I don't have kids. And I also assume that you and I stand on differing ground when it comes to testing the boundaries of authority. Especially when we're talking about something as silly as professional sports. As long as he remembers to dribble between steps and that the shot clock is a real thing, I'd say he's following all the rules that need to be followed.

I'm going to guess you're a big fan of implementing the dress code, and get quietly infuriated every time you see someone like Russell Westbrook show up in an outfit that subverts that idea.

Not that I really disagree with you in practice, but c'mon, we can't have JR Smith: Model Citizen wandering around. What would that do to the children?

hahahaha

From the NBA Office;
For Immediate Release:

In light of recent footwear transgressions and effective immediately, JR Smith, currently of the New York Knicks and formerly of the Denver Nuggets and Zhejiang Chouzhou, may only appear on the floor of an NBA Arena during live ball action wearing Velcro sneakers. The sneakers, or "Smith KickZ" may feature lights in the heel.

They should take away his shoelace privileges

They should make him wear those shoelaces with the squiggly ends they used to sell at mall kiosks.

That's hilarious.

My thoughts on the ordeal. To do it once. Strange. To do it again hours later after being warned by the league. Hilarious.

Did Artest get fined for pantsing Pierce?

Yeah I think people are overreacting to this with the all the "idiot" and "dumbest player in the league" stuff. Marion laughed about it, Im sure he is just doing it to be a pest and joke with it. Im also sure that when he heard the warning he wanted to do it again as a middle finger to the league office. He probably didnt think hed get a 50k fine but at the same time that 50k probably doesnt mean anything to him. He's probably thinking prank well worth it. Unclassy? Sure. Disrespectful to the league? Maybe. Dumbest player in the league? Little extreme.

When the face of your franchise is known for making a don't snitch video.....This kind of stupidity trickles down.

No surprise at all.  I feel for Woodson.

Interesting:

http://deadspin.com/you-know-who-also-untied-his-opponents-shoes-larry-bi-1500463120

Quote
Bird and Person continued their personal battle. At one point when Bird was out of the game and lying on his towel in front of the bench, he reached over and untied Person's shoelaces as the Pacer waited for a free throw at the other end.

That's from Jack McCallum's Unfinished Business, excerpted earlier today on The Stacks. McCallum is writing about Bird's jousting with Indiana's Chuck Person during the first round of the playoffs in 1991.
