I haven't read anything about it but my guess is they realized people can't wear basketball jerseys in public and not look like a little kid.

By introducing these t-shirt unis they can sell "official NBA jerseys" at "official NBA prices" that an adult can wear without fear of exposed biceps, public ridicule, etc.

The theory about ad space is interesting (we know this is something they've floated before) because the jerseys already seem designed to look like Euro soccer "kits." I suspect from the design that they feel this could also be a better seller in Europe and other countries where soccer and soccer fashion is king.

Now you can wear an NBA jersey in Europe and not be confused for a hip hop enthusiast!  ;D

They would look a lot better with the city/team name on the front instead of the huge black and white logo.

I think then it would look too much like a regular jersey with short sleeves and not provide enough differentiation between products. Kind of like those silly baseball t-shirts designed to look like uniforms (team name across chest, player number and name on back).

What I don't like is that every logo is grey or white. Why not use color? Make the graphics big and bold!

i think most people have been wearing plain white t's under their jerseys for a long time.  i know thats what i did when i wanted to wear one to school when i was younger.

i think ad space is the definite root of this idea.

You´re absolutely right, but with that (team/city) look someone might even buy one of those. These are horrible, I was watching that Nets game and for a second I was thinking "Paul, you gotta take that warmup-jersey off before they let you on the court!"

I kind of like the logo look because it makes it look less like an actual jersey and more like a nice, high quality, form fitting t-shirt (maybe the logo could be a tad smaller). But with the name and number on the back you can't avoid the fact that it just looks like an odd hybrid thing.

Interestingly enough, soccer-loving German Dirk Nowitzki already tweeted that he hated them.
