Per the title of the Post, if we do the Asik trade I do think we are "basically" rebuilt.
Asik / Faverani / Iverson (Good mix)
Sully / Olynyk / Draft Pick
Green / Mid level (
Bradley / Draft Pick / Brooks
Rondo / Crawford / Pressey
Great defensive and rebounding team, but need more scoring, so a couple options I see here:
Two options I see here:
1. Sign and/or draft guys who can light it up at the off guard and small forward spots to back up Green and Bradley
2. Sign a max level free agent at small forward or off guard this summer or next.
3. Package some young players for that top line scorer.
So for me when I mention "basically" rebuilt if we do the Asik trade, I'm thinking we're 1-2 moves away from becoming a legit contender and we have a very nice combination of draft picks, young chips and cap flex to make those things happen.
As far as Rondo and Asik versus Bass and Lee, I'm not that worried about that. Perkins and Rondo worked out well, and Asik is at least better offensively than Perkins.
I also think we have a lot of guys who can put the ball in the basket.
Faverani, Sully, Olynyk, Green, Crawford, Bradley and Rondo. We might not have that dominant scorer yet but we have a lot of guys who are pretty good scorers so if you add a couple guys at the 2/3 spots who can light it up off the bench, I think we'd be very effective.
Come crunch time, I'd be very that the collective IQ's of Rondo, Sully, Olynyk, Bradley and Green, combined with the offensive creativity of Crawford, could figure out a way to get a basket when we need it.
This would be more of a San Antonio model that is very successful without having a dominant player in their prime.
All that being said, Sully is quietly becoming somewhat of a go to guy. You can see he'd like to "be that guy" and as he continues to develop and continues to improve his ability to get his shot off, which he is doing by leaps and bounds, the combination of his inside outside game, along with his free throw shooting, could potentially make him that go to guy.
