They've already exceeded all my expectations.  We got Crawford for nothing...  Who woulda thunk that guy would be leading our team into the playoffs.  lol

I guess the question is what is the goal...

I don't happen to see how we turn this into a contender with our current assets (and I am including the picks we have via trade). That's why I have been hoping for a top 5 pick in this upcoming draft.

As far as watching this team play, yeah they have been fun to watch. But they are a sub 500 team. I mean let's be real here.

I kinda feel like I am watching that Philly team from a few years ago with Iggy, Thad, LouWill, Holiday, etc where they were fun but no where near a championship level and not great avenues to get better...

I'm open to another way forward (ie not tanking) but when I read posts like these I get this feeling that we are cutting off our nose to spite our face.

This roster is currently a playoff team AS CONSTRUCTED. I'd bet money on it.

The East is so awful, I don't think Danny can tank.

I have no clue what's going to happen but we'll all see what direction Danny is going by Feburary.

I still can't stomach the idea of rooting for a sub .500 playoff team.  That just makes me really uncomfortable.  But if Stevens gets this team to .500... I'm all-in on winning.  I thought Celtic pride and our winning culture would effectively die once KG was traded.  I was on board with the long-view of that trade, but figured it would take several years until we regained that winning mentality.   If things continue on this trend, I'll be proven very wrong... which is a good thing.  Brad Stevens looks like he can coach... and if he can get this group of youngins and mediocre vets to .500, it will probably mean good things for Boston.   When Doc, KG, Ray and Paul were here... Boston was a premiere franchise and an intriguing destination for players around the league.   If Stevens can get these guys to massively overachieve (above .500 and the playoffs), our assets become far more valuable, our credibility around the league increases... and anytime a disgruntled all-star wants out, they'll have to look towards Boston and it's boatload of assets.  I love watching this team.  These guys are growing on me more and more each game.

The Celtics have a good collection of trade assets.  Remain flexible, wait for a good deal, and when one opens up, then pounce on it.  It might be a season or two before that happens, but it could be this season, with a team looking to blow it up and start over.

I think we are a borderline playoff team as is. Knicks and Nets still will most likely be heard from. Knicks we'll see starting tomorrow. That'll be an interesting matchup. And the Nets need an experienced coach. I'm wondering if and when they'll make that move. Now would be a good time for them while people are coming back from injury.

who knows? It's been a crazy year. How many guys have broke their hands this year? bizarre

Well we don't have an Al Jefferson and we don't have a top pick and that's the kinda assets I think we need. A top pick in this draft would go along way IMO

Wow, LB I just almost fell out of my chair reading this lol. Welcome aboard.

Jokes aside, you bring up some good points. If we suck and bottom out, our players are likely worthless in a trade. However, if they play well and can perform on the big stage in the playoffs, they should greatly increase their trade value.

Yeah I mean, two of the teams who made the most obvious 'win now' contending moves are now last and second to last in the standings, and Boston is a division leader after winning 42% of their games. DOGS AND CATS, LIVING TOGETHER, MASS HYSTERIA!!

If this team makes the playoffs, I will root like heck for them, but I will still have in the back of my mind that they don't have top talent in terms of winning a title...

In terms of assets, I think getting to the playoff only increases the players value to a certain point. I mean, look again to that Philly team. Certainly, people around the league changed how they looked at their players, but to what end? That team is still stuck doing ANOTHER rebuild three years later...

Well Big Al netted us KG after a 24 win season with a what was it 17 game losing streak...Personally, I'd rather have the pick

Sullinger could be that Al Jefferson-like young player who gets sent out in a deal for a superstar.

James Harden was acquired for Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, two firsts, and a second.  The Celtics need to be able to outbid a package of that caliber to have a shot at acquiring a star player who becomes available.

I guess that's where I fall off with a rebuild based on our current assets. I don't see Sully, Olynyk, or Bradley having anywhere near the value of a Big Al and I don't our picks being anywhere near as valuable as they could be with vs without a top pick in this draft.

I think a top pick in this draft is transformative. I think Sully, Oly, and AB will have solid value with or without a playoff run and adding in a top pick makes us a player in ANY for ANY player around the league whereas a middling pick does not.

If we get that top pick in this draft we are in on EVERY player that is rumored to be moving. Love, Aldridge, Wall, whoever it is we will be right there in terms of offers...

Well sure, in a vacuum. If Stern wanted to give us a top 3 pick I'd be very happy. However, that situation is likely a dream at this point with this roster.

There's lots of things I'd like but have no real way of getting them.

TP, Nick.

I completely agree.
