Remember this name:

Kelly Olynyk.

He is the next "big name" for the Celtics.

To answer the question, who knows. There's a lot of transactions that'll become or cease to become available. Add to that, Ainge tends to do surprising things, like a good GM should.

Interesting ideas. I definitely see where you are going with the 2007 parallels- we are amassing a warchest of trade chips and we have a good number of talented young players. Following the parallel, I would be looking for two elite  ~30 year old players who are hungry, have been stuck on bad teams, and who haven't won a championship before.

Kevin Love is too young to qualify. Gasol is on a perennial contender, I don't see him being hungry for a blow-up.

I think that the two players who look the part are Carmelo Anthony and Lamarcus Aldridge. Sooo... how do you feel about a Rondo-Bradley-Green-Anthony-Aldridge super team? I'm not as excited about it because, well, there's no Kevin Garnett and it's hard to imagine Anthony-Aldridge controlling the paint the way Garnett-Perkins did. It's interesting, though.

Rather have Randle than Parker or Wiggins at this point.

Well as for Melo, I just don't ever see him as a Celtic and to be honest, I am not going to loose sleep over it.

Don't get me wrong, he'd provide the team with a brief spark, boost attention/interest in the team, sell more tickets/jerseys and the Celts would temporarily take over the cover of the Boston Globe and Herald.

But, I just don't see him as the next great Celtic. Not to mention he plays a position that's a dime a dozen right now in the NBA. Furthermore, I could easily see him in purple and gold next year next to Kobe.

Aldridge is a more interesting case. It's hard to figure out what's going on with him in Portland and it's even harder to figure out what type of team he would like to play for.

Admittedly, he's one star with a great skill set but someone I don't know quite know as much about.

There's a few reasons why I picked Monroe, M.Gasol and K.Love

-They all just strike me as guys Danny Ainge would target. Danny seems to always like European players with Gasol's skill set...
-KLove because he's a rebounding machine and we've had good luck prying away Kevins from Minnesota
-Monroe because similarly to Gasol, can score/rebound, play PF and center and is basically an upgrade over Sully, Bass, etc.

Plus, the GM's of Minnesota, Memphis and Detroit all seem like GM's that Danny could possibly slip one by in a trade.

K-Love and L-Aldridge look like the next two stars to be traded. Either next summer or the following season.

-Pau Gasol
-Marc Gasol
-Kyrie Irving
-Zach Randolph
-Rudy Gay
-Roy Hibbert
-Kenneth Faried
-Enes Kanter
-Greg Monroe
-Brook Lopez
My guesses on those guys ...

Pau Gasol = I think he leaves LAL in free agency this summer and joins whichever playoff team can offer him the most money.

Marc Gasol = prized asset that Memphis will be loathe to lose. The main cog both in their current team and their next reincarnation. Not going anywhere.

Zach Randolph = I don't think he is in the Grizzlies long term plans. Has started to decline. Two years left on his deal. I think they will keep him this season and shop him in the summer. If no good offers, let him expire and leave the following summer. Could get a David West type contract, ~~$10mil on playoff team. Too old for Boston.

Kyrie Irving = I think he resigns with Cleveland and stays there for another few years. Cavs to make a big push in FA next summer after they waive A.Bynum. Convince Kyrie to stay for now.

Rudy Gay = available right now. Jeff Green and Humphries would probably get it done. Expirings and a quality draft pick or multiple lower picks might get it done. Raptors shopping him.

Roy Hibbert = Indy have a strong future there around P.George and R.Hibbert. The other pieces are moveable. Those two will be there for the long haul.

Kenneth Faried = Seems destined to be signed to a stupid contract after his rookie contract expires. I hope it is not Boston that gives it to him.

Enes Kanter = Utah will keep hold of him through his current contract and his next contract extension. They will match any offer sheet when he becomes a FA.

Greg Monroe = Pistons will give Monroe and Drummond a long time to make things work. Two years more at least I reckon. Depends on how that goes. How each player develops. Could go either way.

Brook Lopez = Nets will try and rebuild around B.Lopez and D.Williams following the decline and departures of their other three big names (JJ, Pierce, KG). So that is 2-3 years away and then another 2-3 years of rebuilding attempts. So probably 5+ years away from considering moving him and that is only if they fail to rebuild well enough. Not going anywhere for quite a long time.

And K-Love and L-Aldridge, I reckon both players will become available in a trade sometime between summer 2014 and summer 2015. I think both the Wolves and Blazers fail to convince their star players that they are truly title contenders and/or likely to be title contenders in the near future and both players look for greener pastures.

Let's say hypothetically we get the 3rd pick, then trade for Aldridge with the now redundant Jeff Green, our ATL/Nets pick, our 2018 Nets pick and someone random like Crawford.  Then we trot out:

Rondo
Bradley
Randle
Aldridge
Olynyk

Is that really good enough to win within the next 5 years?  I am not really that sold on Aldridge, although that would be a pretty money team.  I think KLove would be a little steeper in what we'd have to give up to get him, although two picks and Green is a pretty good package.

other players we could target to complement one of Aldridge or Love if we were to get them, are Eric Gordon or Danny Granger. Something like Aldridge, Sullinger, Green, Gordon, Rondo could work.

We trade everyone we have for a lottery pick. Pick Randle at #2 and Parker at #5, Mitch McGary at #20. That's a good frontcourt for the future

We could very well get Randle or Parker and McGary with the picks we have, and still have Rondo, Green, AB, Sully and KO. I hear you on Parker and Randle though. They are going to be STARS.

You're right. Rondo and Randle would be really good together.
