I read something on box score geeks that speculated that during the time Tyson chandler is injured the Knicks will go on a massive losing streak, which could result in chandler being traded. If this comes to happen, do the celtics have enough to pry him away from New York? What would it take? Humphries, bradley, and 2 picks?

I don't think so.

James Dolan is the owner, not the GM.

My guess is they would ask for a replacement center, a young player with starter potential, and some draft picks since all their picks are spoken for until 2018, so my guess is they would want Faverani, either Sullinger or Olynyk, a first round pick, and other draft considerations, plus some veteran roster filler to balance salaries.

chandler is 31 years old.

chandler is signed for $14.1 million this year and $14.6 next year.

in 2015-16 he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

this celtics team will be bad for the next 3 to 5 years.

they have scrapped together a nice pile of assets for rebuild that will take them forward for a long period of time.

chandler will not make the celtics a championship calibre team.

even if chandler give the celtics another 5-8 wins a year, the celtics are not going anywhere, they would tie up a huge chunk of their payroll, they will have to give away those hard earned assets, and just when they MAY become a good team, chandler is an UFA and/or old, old, old.

i fail to see why the celtics would benefit from such a deal.

move along everybody. nothing to see here.

Why would we do this?

Its not like we'd get an expiring, especially if your giving up Humps and AB. Chandler has two left, and Humps and AB are up this year.

And if the trade makes us better that doesn't help either.

The scenario where I could see the Celtics trading for Tyson Chandler involves Carmelo Anthony opting out, realizing that the Knicks are stuck going nowhere, and signing with someone else and the Knicks blowing stuff up and trading Chandler for bad contracts and draft picks in July 2014.

Let's say Wallace, the unguaranteed contract of Bogans, a player selected with the 2014 Nets pick (or a pick), and a future protected first for Chandler and you have a team of:

Bigs - Chandler, Olynyk, Sullinger, Faverani, Bass
SF - Green
Guards - Rondo, Bradley, Pressey, Lee
A player taken with the Celtics own 2014 pick
A wing signed with the MLE who can back up Green and guard big SGs.
A veteran point guard who won't complain about a DNP-Coach's decision
A couple of extra roster spots for undrafted rookies, Colton Iverson, D-League guys, or bringing back Crawford or Brooks

Despite a presumably aging and declining Chandler, the team has extra first round picks, a rookie likely to have been taken with a high lottery pick, and young talent with upside.

That strikes me as a middle team likely to make the playoffs, on an upward trajectory for future seasons, so unlikely to be stuck as a perennial first-round exit.

why do we need old almost washed up players like tyson and perk? i don't get it. if we are contending i would love to have chandler. but we are rebuilding so i just don't get the point of having him here.

Just say no to this one.   Trading for an injured horse is not wise neither for a player.

Not interested in Tyson Chandler.  He's getting up there in age and wear + tear.

Regarding the Knicks.  They're in trouble.  I have a feeling that Melo is heading to LA to team up with Kobe.  Melo says he wants to stay in NY, bla bla bla...but when push comes to shove I think LA gets the gunner

This.

Just say NO to Chandler.  acquiring him serves no positive purpose.

Why would the Knicks trade Chandler?
Blowing it up.

Trading Chandler would be implicit that they're also looking to trade Melo as he's walking after this year anyways.

I don't think Dolan would allow it, he'll go down with Melo no matter what.

Trading Wallace, Faverani and Lee for him cuts some $3 million salary this year and a year off what we own Wallace and Lee so it saves some $15 million in 2015-2106, the year we would need to extend Rondo and could be looking at signing a big name free agent as well.

Not saying the Knicks or Celtics should do it or would do it but that could be a reason the Celtics do it.

Why would the Knicks trade Chandler?
Why would the Celtics want Chandler? He's an aging, complementary piece who will be completely useless on a team that's not going anywhere for a couple of years.
