If this stuff is true what RI did isn't exactly "bullying"

What would you call it?
Maybe criminal harassment?  I know threats and intimidation is against the law and this strikes me more like that.

im pretty sure harassment is the word used by adults when they bully each other.  It's the same thing

It just sounds better in a court of law or in front of a review board

So, by your definition, if it is against the law, then it is not bullying?

The 'stand up to a bully' narrative some push online is idiotic. Many bullies will kill you before they let you ruin their reputation. There is a prevalent bully myth that standing up to them makes them back down. Nonsense. There is also the myth that bullies are cowards. Untrue.

Many feel that they have nothing to lose and will kill to protect their ego.

It can go either way.  Not all bullies are the same.  Their hatred and how they act on it can come from different places.  Fear and weakness or a sense of power a and a desire to use that power on others.

It's not black and white.

So yes, punching a bully in the face could work against some, but not against others.

With Incognito, I think we are talking a big, dumb, racist man who feels he is big enough that he can say whatever he wants.  And he basically has been to this point. He probably would have loved if Martin had tried to fight him.

Either way it doesn't really matter.  He's trash.

On some level I think it's a matter of degree. Bullying is something 6 year olds could do to each other, but criminal harassment probably isn't.

I don't think this kind of idiocy is OK anywhere....

That said...There's a direct correlation between who's saying it and the indignation shown.

Gangsta rap anyone?

Gangsta rap anyone?

.... what?  Should there not be?  He called a half black man the n-word and told him he was going to defecate in his mouth....

Please, lets not try to defend any ounce of it or make this argument about the n-word.  This was a directed racial attack.

Ugh.

I'm not defending anything here at all, snakehead.  Wasn't my point.  My point is that I'll venture a safe guess that half of the people in here and more than half of the ESPN commentators indignant about this jam to the same racism and vileness that Incognito displayed.

You're wrong.  That's it.  I'm not going to debate it but calling a person the n-word in this hateful of a way is not in any way like using the n-word in a song.

Just at all.  The two couldn't be further apart.

LOL.....It's the exact same discourse.  Because somebody is directing it toward a whole race with distorted bass...Somehow makes it OK in your mind as opposed to what Incognito did?  I don't think the discourse is OK in any forum.

Wow.

I think it is true that people who are all about narcissism and power come to that place for different reasons and, in fact, act out their cruelty in different ways.  Some actually will run/escape in the face of a return threat while others will respond with rage and vengeance.  I would NEVER advise someone to punch a bully in the face, yet in some cases, this strategy has worked.  But you can't blame the victim for not being an aggressor even if you believe that is the way to handle these situations.  Some of us just aren't built (physically or psychologically) for aggression and domination.  The gentle (or fearful) shouldn't be put down for finding non-violent ways to experience their own sense of power.  They should be praised for it, as it is these people who will evolve civilization while it is the others who will inevitably destroy it.

I call it illegal. No such behavior is lawful in any working environment that I know of. Martin's future lawsuits are going to make him a rich man

To me a major piece of garbage in all this are commissioners of major American sports leagues. If Richie had beaten the crud out of a woman or trapped one in a bathroom and then just said "consensual" he'd still have a nice prosperous career ahead of him.  But since he bothered another athlete he's out.

Major leagues care less about women than dogs.  You kill some dogs you're out indefinitely. You say "consensual" you miss 6 games.

TP.

One thing I keep hearing is this was a breakdown of the leadership on the Dolphins. Well, Incognito was on the Dolphin leadership council. I can not believe that his poor and unprofessional behavior(there's a decent history of this) went so unnoticed that he could be put on a leadership council for the team.

To me its a tell tale sign of bigger problems within that organization. Allowing a racist scum to be on a leadership council happens because those appointing the council want such people leading them or is a complete breakdown of the system. For the Dolphins management's sake, its best to be shown to be incompetent in allowing such a breakdown than to be shown to be complicit, which I am not ruling out given the outward racism I have seen and experienced in the state of Florida.
