Keep it in the locker room...
seriously when your company didn't closed out a deal
do you want one of your supervisor going to the media telling everyone "we could have closed it out but someone someone padded his sales and forgot he's part of the team"
Amateurs worry about equipment, professionals worry about money, masters worry about light… I just take pictures…

Shooting off your mouth is not the Celtics way
Tell that to Larry Bird, KG, Doc Rivers, Tommy Heinsohn, Red Auerbach and a host of other Celtics who had no problem going to the media to get a message through to their team mates/players

I am not quite sure why some people are so sensitive to this.

The team sucks and Gerald Wallace is speaking up

So what's the problem?

The problem:  Gerald Wallace is trying to make the team better (or at least try harder).

Most people on this board don't want our team to play better.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

regardless of whether or not Wallace handle this correctly, who is he referring to as being selfish and focused on padding their stats? Green agreed with him so I'm assuming Green is not one of those players. Bradley took 14 shots, and Lee and Bass each took 11 shots, so I would guess those three may be the guys he referred to. Crawford only took 1 shot, so it can't be him, and Faverani and Sullinger each took 6 shots, so it's unlikely to be them.

IMO, Bradley as our starting PG taking more shots than anyone on the team and shooting 4-14 with just 2 assists is the primary culprit, and he is playing for his next contract this year.

I want this team to play the best it can, I just don't think it will be good enough.

I want Wallace to be the leader on the floor and in the locker room.  I want him to be the example to young guys on how to maximise your talent in the nba.

Get ready for the player/fan whining.

Some of us have been saying since last year we were going to be god awful this year. In response we heard how great Green and Sully were going to be, how Bradley was a superstar in the making.

This team is going to win at most 20 games. This is a tank for Wiggins season. Just accept it

Wallace is good about 2 extra wins this season.

Guy is garbage. He should just keep his mouth shut.

I hope he's traded soon..

Is that not what he's doing?  He's saying he wants young guys to maximize their wins not their money/stats.

You might want this team to play the best it can, but many want this team to play as bad as it can.  Whether the team is good enough to win or not, it's an issue of effort.  Wallace is a 100% effort guy.

If the team gives 100% effort and loses anyway that's fine, but many have made it abundantly clear they don't want the team putting any effort in trying to win.  In fact, they actually want the team to put effort into losing.

True, but that's no excuse for being selfish when you can't shoot well and are supposed to be the main distributor. His next contract has to be on his mind imo.

I disagree.  First in terms of the coaches/GM, whole different situation.  As far as Bird and KG, I guess I remember differently because I don't recall them spouting out some questionable conclusions on a bad team after 2 games.

An earlier post documented Wallace's history of shooting off his mouth.  That is what I see this as.  A reactionary pop, not a thought out motivational message.

I don't envy Wallace being on this team at this point in his career.  I can understand how frustrating this will be for him but I still expect him to behave better.  This stuff will get old quick and will not help.

It isn't necessarily taking too many shots.  It could be guys trying to steal rebounds from other Celtics.  It could be guys not playing defense because they want to save their effort for offense.

that's right, it could be, and it could be all three of those things. I just went with the stat that is easiest to interpret, but the other factors are all valid. Any thoughts on which players Wallace and Green are referring to?

i'm glad Green/Wallace are stepping up to the plate and being leaders.

the last thing you want on a losing team is for the young guys to develop bad habits....you saw that with Washington wizards who drafted lots of guys high but have still sucked because they've developed bad habits.

but if you are Ainge, you must be happy thus far.

1. team is losing putting you on pace to get a lotto pick
2. Vets are stepping up to provide leadership so the young guys dont develop losing habits.
3. Humphries, Wallace, Green, bass are playing well thus for if you want to include any of them in trades come the trade deadline
