I'd like to know more about the story here. That Sixers roster is starved for talent.

Did Philly think White was going to demand playing time that he didn't deserve? Is he just not talented? Was his condition too much of a burden/distraction for the club?

maybe he was going to hurt their tanking strategy in the long run this season

I would just really love to see him get it together and put his talents to use on tha court.

I hope a team out there gives him a chance. Is there more to why he was released tho? Or is him being released all that's out there?

White does have the anxiety disorder, of course, but I think the bigger factor was a bit of an attitude. Thrown out of game.

An attitude problem on a team projected to challenge the franchise/league record for losses in a season: that makes some sense to me. Malcontents and losing never mix well.

That perseverance is still there with us, and we hope that it can work. We genuinely hope that it can work here."

Signing him to a non-guaranteed deal is a no-brainer for a team in our situation as long as it doesn't put us into the luxury tax.

Agreed. The dude has game.

I think releasing him hurts their tanking strategy.  If they wanted to lose as many games as possible, putting him into games would've aided them tremendously.

Even before all his issues came out in full force and he got out of shape, he wasn't guaranteed to be a solid or above average player.  There were questions about his shooting, his ability to play off the ball and his defensive indifference.  He had to be someone who really worked to keep in shape and honed his skills.  Needless to say, he hasn't done that and so he's looked horrible.

Yeah, he's got some disorders that an employer should try to work with, if possible--it's the law--but he's also a jerk. And some jerks aren't worth their jerkdom.

Aside from his mental issues, he has been absolutely horrible in the preseason.  If he showed anything at all, he wouldn't have been cut.

That may simply be the explanation.

The kid's obviously got massive issues that he needs help with.  I always thought the Rockets should have treated his rookie year kind of like the Raptors did with T-Mac, when he was a kid coming right out of high school - basically, just let him play home games for a season.  Look at White as a kid with massive talent that needs to become comfortable with his surroundings to have any chance of success.  So, let him get used to the NBA game for 41 games, and hopefully as he acclimated to that, the flying/travelling big becomes something that he can work on.  Because really, it's such a dramatic lifestyle change, hitting the NBA, just smooth out that transition over a couple of years.

Historically across all sports, the amount of BS a team is willing to put up with is commensurate with the talent a guy has.  White's efforts to bring attention to mental illness are commendable but in his short time in the league he has brought unwanted negative attention to his employer while not contributing a thing on the floor.  If nothing else, the sixers would have had to seen a complete turnaround from him in very short order to consider keeping him around for the potential problems he could be bringing.  It didnt happen, and he's gone.  No one wants to pay him to sit home and tweet.
