I know it's only pre-season , and stevens is still working a lot of stuff out, but last night everytime KO touched the ball in the half court it was beyond the 3 point line. He would catch it and at the top of the key, then immediately pass it off to a wing player. It was extremely frustrating to watch

I know he isn't really a low post player, but would like to see him get some closer touches where he can face up and take a slower big man off the dribble, or find cutters with his great passing ability . Also want so see a lot of pick and pop /roll stuff with him .

His one unique quality is his size and three point shooting ability. A stretch 4 role, the first he will step into in his career, is getting the ball outside and using the three point shooting threat to stretch the floor and make others game easier. He is not much of a post player, he is lacking physically even if he is tall, and there aren't going to be all that many nights when he is matched up against someone slower than he is. So take the stretch 4 role and embrace it.

I like the idea as a way to get him in the game and utilizing his strengths.

This is a trick question in the vein of a couple of famous ones from the Doc Rivers era, like; "why is every play a Paul Pierce ISO?", "why is every play a screen for Ray Allen?", or "why does Rajon Rondo dribble the ball for twenty seconds at the top of the key on every possession?"

None of those questions represent reality.  Nor, does the one you asked about Kelly Olynyk.  I saw him catch the ball in the low post, I saw him catch it in the high post, I saw him get the ball in transition, I've seen him get the ball in both screen and rolls and screen and pops, and, yes, I also saw him get the ball out above the three point line on occasion.

You also got to remember. The Celtics are running basically the same set over and over again in the half court while they adjust to new everything. I think once Rondo comes back, they'll move Kelly around more. Rondo does love to penetrate and dish to a cutting big man.

On several semi fast break situation, he had inside position but lee and jcraw both missed to lob it to him.  There was a few more he times he had his chance for a near post basket but jcraw didnt pass it. For me its jcraw inability to run the pt that is frustrating.

Olynyk def should get more touches from the ft line area and in.
