I'm not at all interested in these (or other) player rankings as they are mostly pretty much worthless trash, imho.

But LOVE the highlight videos of Rajon and The Glove!

Agreed, in general, about rankings. ESPN magazine had a ranking of best to worst sports franchises. It was ridiculous (across the 4 major pro sports leagues in the US). Highest Boston area team? NE Patriots, at something like #38 (from recall). The Boston Red Sox? #98 or so. Simply ridiculous.
Celtics fan for life.

I still think Rondo is a top three "point guard" in the league behind Chris Paul and Tony Parker... Talent wise you could say Westbrook and Irving with Curry borderline and WIlliams behind Rondo... Pure PG wise though. Rondos top three.

Rondo's got a lot to prove this season.  This is nothing new for him, though.  It seems that every year he's had to prove the doubters wrong, and he always does.

I'm very much looking forward to watching the next chapters unfold in the career of Rajon Rondo.  I'm expecting some more awe inspiring basketball in the coming years from our point guard.

  • No no no, not THAT "Eric M Van".
There's a topic on the front page called what is Jeff Green Worth (or something like that) and I dropped the SI ranking and analysis of Jeff Green in there a few days ago. It had him outside of their top 100. Regardless of the "sillyness" with which some regard these, there is an addendum to their analysis of him which I thought seems pretty much spot on. As I always say YMMV.

4. Which player included in our “notable omissions” list will place the highest in next year’s rankings?

Golliver: Jeff Green. I definitely like both Valanciunas and second-year Wizards guard Bradley Beal as upside picks for all of the obvious reasons. I’ll go with Green, though, even if I’m not his biggest fan. This is mostly about my expectations for his setup on a rebuilding Boston team. I look at that roster and think — snap take — that if the 27-year-old forward doesn’t provide the scoring, no one will, especially during Rajon Rondo’s absence. Although we generally took care to avoid rewarding players who put up big numbers on bad teams in this year’s ranking (J.J. Hickson, etc.), there’s a chance that Green is asked to do so much that what he can accomplish as the go-to guy starts to outweigh what he wasn’t able to supply in a supporting role.

Do I expect Green to totally change his game and blossom into a fringe All-Star candidate? No, not really. But I do expect him to play hard and put up career numbers across the board. I think that could be enough to repair his reputation a bit, even during what will surely be a trying year for his team.
