  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I suppose if people are arbitrarily going to factor in drop-offs that there's no evidence of, then yeah, don't take any player over the age of 30.  If you're going for production and impact, though, KG is still a top-tier player.

There's a big difference in saying Kevin Garnett, who will be 38 years old come the playoffs next year, and 'any player over 30' will have a drop-off. It is arbitrary, but not equivalent in terms of credibility.

KG's per-36 stats have hardly declined in his 30s. In fact, he's only down 3pts and 3rebs per 36 from his absolute prime.

So we'll monitor KG's minutes in the regular season. Not a problem. If all goes well, we'll make the playoffs at around a 5th or 6th seed, and then we'll unleash Garnett.

Don't set your sites so low.  Even resting KG, I think you've got the foundation to do better than a 5th or 6th seed.

In my own voting, I tend to evaluate based upon past performance, rather than making huge upward or downward projections based upon expected dropoffs or leaps in performance.

Until I see evidence of a decline in KG's game, I'll assume he can still play 33 - 37 highly effective minutes in the playoffs.

Might be a bit early, but ill take Andre Drummond with the confidence that he reaches stardom. Can't go wrong with 2 20 year old big men with unlimited potential.

I was just having a private discussion with another GM, saying that if you value winning now, you can't take Drummond before the fourth round.

Whatever his projections might be, 8 points, 7 rebounds, typically shaky rookie decision making, and no playoff experience isn't worth an early second to me.

I can understand really wanting Drummond, but I would have traded back.  Of course, Davis + Drummond does give you a leg up in the team of the future voting.

Been waiting on this pick since about 1120.  :(

Anyway, Phoenix will take the third best PF, after LA and a healthy Kevin Love:

David West
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I see your point, I just didn't trust him making it to the 3rd. Also, I'm not constructing a team with plans to contend right away. I think Drummond will be a 10/10 guy within the next two years, and eventually an all star. Regardless of where I picked these two guys, the potential is hard to argue against in my opinion.

I really like David West.  He's the type of guy you plug into a lineup and who gives you above-average contributions on both offense and defense.

Third best PF?  Probably not in my mind, but he's very good.

I don't think he's a reach at all.

He's shown he can be productive already, a few more bumps in his minutes an he can greatly contribute to any team.

Excellent pick.

Please settle down in taking big men, guys. Please?

There are plenty others here who needs some. Please? With maple syrup on top?
